560 words; about a 3 minute read
The following is a personal log from LT Remington Dodd.
Remy took a break from overseeing engineering and entered his office and sitting at his desk began a Personal Log.
“Computer start Personal Log,” Remington said and paused until the beep indicating the computer was ready.
“The crew seems to be handling this extended stay in this alternate reality better than I thought they would. I can't believe it has been three weeks since we were pulled into this nightmare reality. While it is the home reality of Major Donovan, it has not been a very welcoming realm.
I have been on continuous duty more or less since there is a great need to get back to our reality. I am constantly researching out the database and all the records contained in the Mirror Universe that Kirk and Sisko have experienced.
I will say that if I had more of the specifications, I might be able to make an inter-dimensional transporter to possibly get us out of this area, but that would not get the ship home.
We know that we have only seen a sampling of this realm. However, if the condition of the fringes of what was once the Federation in this realm is any indication, then by the time we get to the core worlds there will be complete devastation.”
He paused to sip from a hot chocolate.
“We are currently on route to New Xindus. From what information we have gathered, the Xindi are or were full members of the Federation in this realm. The Xindi living up to Xindi we know from our reality and are fighting to the bitter end. The captain even shared that reports that have reached us show that all the surviving forces of Starfleet and the Klingon Empire have added to the system's defence.
The Dominion here is much more vicious than in our reality. I am not sure how our Dominion War would have gone if our reality's Dominion were this nasty.
Nelson and Machado are real troopers and keeping a constant watch over the cloaking device and making sure it does not malfunction or such. The whole of my staff is working as if nothing is wrong, while I know differently. They constantly have thoughts of being stuck in this realm for the rest of our lives. Several have even thought about becoming slaves to the Dominion of this realm."
Remy paused to sip his hot chocolate.
“I will admit that my fear is that we find allies here and then get our ship commandeered and all of us get assimilated into the war that is happening here. I am not sure I would like living here any longer than necessary. I have always wanted to visit a parallel universe but merely for the adventure of it not like this. The Mirror Universe has always fascinated me since I was permitted to read the reports regarding the interactions between officers from our reality and there.
I just hope that we can figure out a way to get home without letting any of the evils of this realm following us when we do."
“Computer save and encode Personal log and end” Remy added and a moment later a bleep was heard indicating the log was done, now he returned to the pool table to resume his tasks at hand.
