Mazal heard about Captain Jasmine Somers being in Medical. The Captain thankfully had survived the ordeal she had been through. Mazal was determined to visit her, she was overdue in doing so. On her way there, Mazal noticed Major Hardway was going in the same direction as she was.
"Hello Major, good to see you. Are you visiting someone?" Mazal asked. She noted that he was carrying a small bouquet.
Major Hardway caught the direction Mazal's eyes were going and momentarily moved them from out of her sight.
"Uh sure, yes I'm going to visit someone." Bronc gruffly replied. "I'm going to go see Captain Somers. I heard she'd been injured so I thought I'd check on her."
Mazal nodded, "Funny thing, I was heading that way myself, let's go there together."
Bronc gave the nod.
- Jasmine's Room -
A nurse poked her head in where Jasmine was, "Captain, you have two visitors, are you up for a visit?"
Sitting up in bed "Let them in" she said to the nurse and in walked a Major she did not recognise and Lieutenant Falk, she gave a smile "I know one of you personally" she said and looked at the taller officer "I have not gotten down into Marine country so Major who are you?" She asked curiously.
Bronco cleared his throat slightly, "Captain, I am Bronco Hardway. You may not know me but I know of you. Tough as nails, Captain of the USS Tomcat. Someone that a good lot of us would follow you into hell and back."
Mazal was quiet as she listened to the answers that Bronc was giving.
Bronco caught Mazal looking at him, and glanced sharply at her, then turned his attention back to Captain Somers. "I, we, decided to bring you something to cheer you up. Hope you like the flowers." he gruffly said. He looked around to find a vase in which to put them. The flowers were purple and yellow orchids.
Mazal located a vase and held out her hand towards the orchids, and Bronco gave the nod, handing them over. And Mazal put them in the plastic vase.
"Anyway hope those will do the trick." Bronco then glanced over at Mazal, then back to the captain. oO The captain is certainly a fine-looking woman. She is. Oo Bronc noted the red hair of the Captain and her features, beneath the healing injuries she took. She looked beautiful. Bronco thought all this behind a mask of his usual stoic self.
Before an awkward silence could develop, Mazal commented. "Am glad you were brought back home, Captain. I truly wished I could have gone to get you back."
Jasmine studied Bronco and gave him a small smile and a wink to let him know that she knew something, then she looked at Falk "I know Mazal, I know it was one of those things where the Colonel's skills sort of eclipsed yours for that mission, but I appreciate the sentiment *looks at Bronco again* the flowers are lovely, thank you" she said with a mysterious smile.
"Well, the Colonel is skilled and I was needed on the mission I went on. At least I didn't mess it up too badly." Mazal responded, with a chagrined smile. "the team I was with we got back in one piece."
Bronco's right eyebrow twitched, and his eyes slightly widened at the Captain smiling right towards him and- a wink? there was a slight warming of the tip of his ears, which turned a light red. "You are welcome, well uh maybe I should go and leave you two ladies to chat?" giving an unconscious gulp.
As the Rifle Officer left she looked at Falk "Men are so easy" she said with a smile referring to Bronc who left embarrassed. "So what can you tell me of the Hydaransz side of the mission?" She asked.
Mazal watched as Bronco made a fast departure from the room, a puzzled expression in her eyes then turned to answer Jasmine.
"Well with Jackson being down with some flu, it looked like I was going to be in charge of the whole endeavour. And I was. It was a pretty huge endeavour to think about, and it was a sink-or-swim sort of situation. Good thing I know how to swim." Mazal gave a smile.
Mazal then decided to say something about Bronco. "Captain, just to lay things out on the line. Those orchids that Bronco brought in, it's not from the Marines, I think it's from him."
Looking at the room door intrigued "Indeed, very interesting, he is handsome looking, the downside is it is not the done thing for a ship commander to date a subordinate, but it is my ship and it has been some time since I have been out on a date" she said off-handedly tilting her head, then she looked back to Falk.
Mazal had a thoughtful expression in her eyes, "Well, looks like someone is interested in you. Though can't say what he will be like when you go out on a date. I don't know much about Bronco. He's been a closed book to me but he's been respectful."
"So did you meet the four new Officers A new DCMO, DCEO and Security Officer if memory serves?" Somers asked.
"I was unaware of the four new arrivals, so have not met them yet." Mazal's mind was a bit occupied with what had happened on the mission. "When I get things sorted I will see about meeting them sometime." the dark-haired marine responded.
Somers nodded "Well, two are Security, one in Engineering and another in Medical, it is interesting to see positions being filled up while I am on medical leave!" Somers said.
"Maybe your reputation proceeds you and people wish to sign up under your command. When will you be getting out of medical?" Mazal asked. "It will be nice to have you back." she thought a moment then added.
"Not that Colonel Somers hasn't done a fantastic job, and has had well, er deal with a situation that was sort of caused by me and Lieutenant Winchester early on. I got a bit outspoken with him. I did do it respectfully but. I was outspoken." giving a chagrined look.
Giving Mazal a wan smile "I should be back with you for the next mission, but Commander Dodd will be commanding that as it is one of the tests I have planned for him after all he has to make full commander eventually. As for you do not be too chagrined Colonel Somers should have returned to the Academy earlier, but what happened to me is she had to stay, it has given her valuable on-the-job experience, so when she returns to the Academy she will be better prepared for the final exam she will have to do" Somers said.
"Final exam? And as for the next mission for Commander Dodd, any idea what that will be?" Mazal asked, moving a seat by Jasmine, and then sitting down. " I am rather interested in what you may know about what that is or could be."
"It is the conclusion of the mission he was doing before our current one, we will be finishing that one, as it was left unfinished," Somers said.
Mazal's eyes went wide at that, and she took in a bit of a breath holding it for a moment then let it out slowly. "Ah that one," she uttered quietly. "That was an... interesting mission. One that I hadn't anticipated I'd be a lead on, instead of Captain Jackson. Hopefully, it won't be during the season time of those wanting to become pregnant and give birth. They had a strange ceremony that, had gotten interrupted. I had to get those I was without of there." Mazal rubbed her arms a moment. "The people did have technology but we couldn't get rid of it at that time."
"Sounds interesting, I hear that one of the Anthropologists remained behind on the planet to study what was going on!" Somers said.
"I do believe that was someone we were supposed to get, but we were not able to do so. There was too much indication that this world has been infiltrated with technology that isn't supposed to exist. From what had been said, some cameras are in the form of insect life and even animal life keeping watch over everything and it makes me shudder to even think of the ramifications that represent. Someone may have caused an advancement that is not good." Mazal had a bit of a frown on her face. "Just not right at all."
"As long as we did not break the Prime Directive I am okay with it, but if said drones have been watching this long, then the other watchers must be more advanced than we are!" Somers wondered.
"Just the fact that the people have a device that they can communicate with someone and they are seeming to be not as advanced as we are. It gives me great concern. One thing I will be making certain of is that no one gets into a pool of water of any kind in a ceremony. That was something that was taking place preparing those who partake in it as getting er energized for mating purposes." her face turned slightly red.
Looking at that incredulously "Sadly I doubt that would work for me as while fully capable I am unable to have any offspring, so did any Riflemen excel on the mission you have all just finished?" Somers asked.
"Well K'Muss did and so did Jo Macapuno I had her lead a team and she did great!" Falk paused for a moment when the Captain mentioned not being able to have children. "If you were to end up being with someone, and you wanted kids. Would you adopt?"
"Yes" was all Jasmine said, "I have always been envious of my cousin Alex she got two beautiful four-year-olds, the daughter has the same shade of red as her mother, and the little boy is a dark blonde like his father, but yes if allowed I would adopt, why did you ask?"
"Well, there are those who can't have children, either want kids or not. I have a childhood friend who isn't able to have kids. Her significant other had decided to be a real butt and left her. Even if she wanted to adopt, his stupid idea was if he couldn't have one from his loins he would go someplace else." Mazal has a frown as she speaks of this.
Her face brightened up though on the next part. "Happily she found someone who didn't mind adopting. I guess what I am saying is, I think you would be a great mother, after all, you're having to deal with us as a crew." she gave a slight laugh.
"Yes, but there rest of you are not as much trouble as Lieutenant Winchester, speaking of I know you were both on different ships during the last mission, but how was he if you managed to observe him before departing or after you returned?" Somers asked.
"Winchester, he seems a bit more subdued, almost like a touch of maturity?" Mazal spoke musingly, "He is trying to improve and I've not felt like punching him as of late." Mazal deadpanned. "Though I wouldn't be punching him as that wouldn't be a good thing for either of us. Sorry for speaking so freely on that subject. I won't out and out punch him though. I feel I have more self-control in that area."
"Good to hear," Jasmine said smiling "How did you react when you both first met and he told you of what he had done to both myself and the Colonel?" Somers asked.
"Truth be told, I managed to keep my cool but, I did want to punch him. I was flabbergasted though as to the audacity of what he did and him telling me what he had done. We had just met, and then his sister came along, which gave me a chance to escape before I did something stupid." Mazal scratched her head as she stated the next part. "Why would anyone want to tell a marine first off, about a past happening, and one who is barely coming onto the ship? Just, just... Argh!" Mazal huffed.
*sighs* "Yeah, Winchester may be a pain in the ass, but at least he is honest, if not sometimes blind to what he says and when he says it when I heard what he did it was a facepalm moment for me, you were a new officer and junior in rank and he opened up to a stranger and not any normal stranger, a Rifle Officer and he was Fleet, I am glad you restrained yourself, Lieutenant" Jasmine said.
Mazal nodded, "As am I. Maybe I have that sort of face that says to someone, talk to me, tell me everything." a slow smile drifted across her lips. "Would that make me a good intelligence officer?" a teasing glint in her eyes.
"Well you do kind of have a friendly face there, also I think in some aspects Winchester is a little innocent in some ways, but he still tends to put both feet in his mouth, I have heard that we may be getting another rifle to join our ranks, you will know more when I do," Somers said and fell quiet not knowing what else to ask or say.
"Well thank you, and I am glad to hear that I'm getting another rifle," Mazal said, with a smile, she noted that the conversation was starting to fade off. "Perhaps I should get going, Captain I now have to go sign off on the other paperwork. And maybe Bronco will come back to visit." Mazal gives a cheeky wink. "If I wasn't around. He seems to be slightly shy, to say the least, for quite a tall man."
*Looking surprised* "That man is shy!!" she said in disbelief "Why is he shy? He is a good-looking guy, does he not have all the women swooning over him already?" She asked.
"I do not know, Captain. He seems to keep to himself for the most part. Which is why I was surprised about him bringing you some flowers." Mazal replied. "Other than that, I've not even heard much of any rumours about him, only that he does his work well and keeps the troops in line."
"Keeping the troops in line is always a good thing, I may end up seeking him out again when I am fully healed," she said as the nurse arrived Jasmine looked at the nurse and then to Falk "I might be getting out today, so here is hoping, got this nurse here to do some checks then it will be up to the Starbase doctor," she said, this nurse was friendlier than the last as he just smiled.
"I do hope to see you out of here and back into action," Mazal responded, then she grinned seeing the friendly smile the nurse gave to the captain. "Captain when you get out, how about dinner, unless you have other plans in mind as in, maybe seeing a certain orchid-bearing marine?" giving a cheeky grin towards her CO.
"The dinner will be fine Mazal, I will look at my time slots and let you know, as for the Sergeant Major, all in good time, all in good time" Somers responded with a smile.
Mazal gave a nod and chuckled. "Well until then, I will see you later on, this week. Have a good night Captain." glancing once more towards that handsome nurse, the man gave Somers another warm genuine smile. Mazal then took her to leave giving a little bit of a giggle. It will be interesting to see how things went between Captain Somers and Bronc.
Jasmine watched Falk leave and sighed, another check-up and one more night, she hoped it was only one more night, she had her last Counselling session and knew her actions when traumatised on the rescue ship had ruined her career, she may have escaped serious punishment, but hers was more subtle and worse as not only will she have to live with the memory and never making Admiral.
