Timeline: After the Arth mission

Cassandra took one last look at herself in the mirror. She practiced her smile and for once thought she actually looked nice. She had the crew to thank for her returning confidence. Though she wasn't yet returned to Starbase fifty one or the Tomcat for that matter she still felt at home surrounded by her friends. Giving her reflection one more once over, the soft butter yellow silken dancing dress swayed just above her knees to hiding a matching pair of spandex shorts underneath it. A pair of golden flats with sunflowers at their ankle straps where on her feet. She checked the make up again, she'd kept it simple. She was after all still learning the art of applying it to herself. Just a bit of brown eyeliner, yellow and gold eye shadow around her blue eyes. A touch of blush pink lipstick. Her dog tags hung down into the top of the sweetheart neckline of her dress, the only jewelry if one could call it that, she wore. She wasn't yet skilled at the whole accessory deal yet. she'd work on it next time, she promised herself. Her hair was cured under neatly and clipped back on the right side behind the ear with a sunflower hair clip. An attempt to pull the outfit together. She was as ready as she was ever going to be she decided.
Cassandra had put together a nice program on holodeck four in an effort to carry on Mazals desire for the crew to bond together and be a stranger team and family. Music, dancing, food and fun. She hoped everyone would have a great time.
Thex smiled as she walked down the halls to Holodeck four. She was dressed in a black dress ending in mini-skirt with jewellery on her wrist, neck hair and antennae with her feet wearing a pair of black heels. It would be good to hang out with the female crew and see her friends again. Seeing Cassandra she called out giving her a wave. " Hey Cass good to see you."
The smile was immediate as Cassandra turned at Thex's greeting. Retiring the wave she stopped and waited for her friend to catch up. "Hey there Thex!" She greeted in return giving the engineer a hug, "you look amazing!" She added her eyes sweeping over the other woman in approval. Cassandra could only hope someday to be able to reach that level of beauty. Thex made it look so easy, so natural. "I'm so glad you are able to make it." Cassandra went on her shoulders obviously relaxing now that she was in good company.
" You look great yourself Cass." Thex replied with a warm smile on her face. " I can't wait to see what you have in store for us."
"Nothing too sepectacular. Just a nice twentieth century dance club with open bar." Cassandra explained as they continued their way through the halls. "Due to the mission and my extra duties I didn't have time for much else." She confessed. With Mazal gone Cassandra was standing in as the MCO currently. It was a bit of a change to say the least. Still Cassandra was determined to do her best.
" Sounds like fun." Thex smiled as she gestured for Cassandra to lead the way.
Lead the way she did. Cassandra lead them to holodeck 4 where it seemed that her program had attracted more than just the female portion of the command community. It actually made Cassandra smile to see the mixed groups of men and women mingling together enjoying her program. Discussions about different types of music and songs filled the hall mixed with laughter and so many smiles. She felt as though a weight lifted from her chest and she felt herself getting excited as she waved here and there to familiar faces.
They made it to the kiosk and got a room big enough for 15 or so people. "Looks like ladies night is a big hit with the boys." She joked as they made there way further into the building towards their room.
" It does indeed. You've pulled out the stops with this one as the terrans say." Thex replied as she followed her friend.
It felt good to be complimented. Especially by someone Cassandra held in such high regard. "I think my next step will be to start doing more co-ed get togethers. I want the whole Marine unit to feel comfortable with each other and make friends and memories together. After all at the end of the day if we don't have each other then what are we even out here fighting for? Mazal wanted us to be like a family. I have every intention of following in her footsteps. Even if the shoes are a bit to big to fill." She admitted with a soft blush. "Still I know with the whole team working together that there is nothing we can't accomplish."
"You're doing a great job filling those shoes Cas. You'll have the whole crew feeling like one big family before you know it." Her friend replied with a smile upon her blue lips. " Now i could use a drink what can i get you?" She added.
"Coffee, Black please." Cassadra responded with a grin. Thex could never know just how much her words had touched her just now. Cassandra swore to herself that no matter what she would do her very best in the position as Acting MCO for as long as she held the position.
As Thex headed off to grab the drinks Cassadra set up the Karaoke station and picked out a song by an old terrain band called Kool and the Gang to help kick off the Celebration with a song titled just that, "Celebration"
"Alright ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining us for these evening's festivities. I am so proud to see so many of you gathered here tonight Let's let loose and have fun, shall we?"
A roar of applause, then the lyrics popped up and Cassadra began to sing for them.
Thex led the round of roaring applause as her body began moving to the music. The girl talent for dancing immediately drew eyes to the blue girl as she moved to the beat.
Cassandra watched. Trying not to stare but unable to tear her eyes away from Thex's dancing figure in the crowd. She sang through two more songs trying to sort through the odd sensation that seemed to tingle through her system. It was excitement, but different from the excitement of before.
She forced herself to focus on the crowd before finally luring someone else up to take over. Her throat was dry and she needed that coffee. She all but skipped over to Thex for some reason that strange exciment surger as she grew closer to her blue friend.
Thex gave her friend a smile as she pulled her into her dancing. " You have a beautiful voice Cassandra. " She said warmly as she kept moving to the music.
"Thank you. I love singing and occasionally dancing." Cassandra remarked as she watched Thex a wisp of envy in her blue eyes. Cassandra loved dancing. Just not in front of people anymore. The experience was stained by painful memories that Cassandra was still working through. "You are an excellent dancer. Do you sing at all?" Cassandra asked as she took a seat to sip on her coffee.
" Very badly. " Thex said with a chuckle as she took a seat next to her friend. " Nainaa tried to teach me, animal women, are meant to be able to entertain their guests in multiple ways but i could never master the singing."
Cassandra smiled, "if I hadn't followed my foster brother into starfleet I was aiming to be a universal celebrity pop star singer." Cassandra said with her own chuckle. "Kid dreams really. Though at that time I was a very passionate performer. Still, I am glad I chose Starfleet. I wouldn't trade all this.." she said motioning around the room, and then to Thex, "or our friendship for anything. Even being a universal Popstar."
" Thex sh'Zoarhi is my name, the federation is my nation, deep space is my dwelling, the stars my destination." Thex said raising her glass as she did so. " I wouldn't trade it either Cassandra."
Cassandra raised her own glass in agreement giving Thex's a soft 'clink'. "To the stars, and Friendship and adventure that comes with both."
Thex smiled and took a long drink. Life was good.
