Lamia was sitting on the sofa, propped up by a comfortable cushion; she was getting used to breastfeeding her son now. At first, it had been a tricky thing to master, but now both she and baby Wyatt were happy. She was still feeling sore, but having surgery the way she had it wasn’t a surprise.
Looking up at her beloved husband, she smiled at him. “Chris, would you mind getting me something to drink? I didn’t think to pick one up before I sat down.”
*Smiles* "Sure, what would you like?" Chris asked his wife
“I think a strawberry milkshake for a change”, Lamia smiled warmly. “Thank you.”
He nods and walks over to the replicator. "One cold Strawberry milk and a glass of milk, semi-skimmed," he says, picks up the two cold glasses, and takes them over. He hands the Strawberry one to Mia and sits next to her with his drink, taking a sip.
Lamia smiled as she took the milkshake before sipping it. “Mmm, just what I needed.” She drank some more before placing it on the small table beside her. “So how does it feel to be a father? These overnight feeds are definitely the ones that tire me out, it’s a good job I’m on maternity leave, or I’d be walking around like a zombie!”
Looking at her, "at the risk of getting slapped, you could pump through the day, and then now and again you could have the hologram we created activate when the baby needs feeding, as you would have pumped your breast milk into a bottle, you could get a full night's sleep!" Chris suggested.
“I know you’re right, I just feel that’s kind of cheating, and I want to bond with our son. There’s going to be a point where we’re supposed to send him off the ship.” Lamia sighed. “I can’t say I’m looking forward to that.”
"That would be six months from now, but you could still bond with little Wyatt even if you let the hologram feed him now and again; he would not begrudge you a good night's sleep!" Chris said.
“That’s true” Lamia nodded. “You did spend all that time organising it after all. I’ll use it, but don’t let that stop you from bonding with your son either. Not that I think you would.” She smiled warmly.
Puts the glass down and looks over "Looks like the little one has fed and is now sleeping, let's enjoy these few moments before he decides to wake up again!" Chris said, putting his arm around his wife.
“I think I’d like that,” Lamia said, smiling. “The more time with you, the better.”
"I have my moments!" was all he could say "Let me have him so I can put him in his crib" Chris said.
Lamia nodded and gently handed over their sleeping son. “Good luck! He may decide to wake up as soon as you put him down.
"Oh, I think it will be okay!" he quietly said, taking his son and cradling his child as he walked over to the sleeping area and gently laid little Wyatt in his crib. He looked down and sighed, then he returned to the lounge and rejoined his wife on the settee.
“I heard that sigh in here”, Lamia said as she gave Chris a curious look. “Was that a sigh of relief, or something else?”
Standing over his son, he looked over at his wife, "just realising how lucky I am to have a son, never did I think to marry, let alone a Fleet Officer and a Ships Counsellor", he said, then giving Mia one of his soul-melting smiles ", obtaining the hand and attention of a very attractive woman!" he responded.
“I’m just glad you chose me, after all, every woman melts at the sight of that smile of yours!” Lamia grinned. “I consider myself to be a very fortunate woman, and I’m glad that you’re all mine.”
"You are surprised I chose you!!" Chris exclaimed.
*Looks at the Reader with and raises an eyebrow, then back at Lamia*
"I mean, I could have chosen Colonel Somers, but things were stopping me, First she scares the shit out of me; secondly, we used to work closely together, she built her crazy micro explosives, and I was there to disarm them should things go south. Thirdly, her heart belonged to another, and finally, she was in my direct chain of command and even in today's Starfleet, it is not a done thing. Then I met you, and the rest they say is history," Chris responded.
Lamia grinned before giving Chris a gentle, playful swat with her hand. “Colonel Somers? Seriously? There are so many women on this ship, and Starbase 51, who keel over every time you smile. I’m surprised you haven’t noticed. I’m just glad that you’re mine.”
*Sheepishly* "I noticed the admiring looks, but I am a one-woman guy", then teasingly ", although there are some very pretty ladies out there" he said with a disarming smile and flinched back from another playful swat from his wife "hey such attention has only increased since I been wearing a wedding ring, one would have to be blind to the looks from all the women" he said.
Lamia grinned. “Which makes me all the luckier to be the woman married to you. Doesn’t mean I don’t worry like hell when you’re out with the marines doing your job, I’ll worry even more so now.”
Bashfully, lightly rubs the back of his head, "Yeah! Motherhood tends to do that; you should have seen how much my mother worried when I first enlisted", he said, "then again when I was teamed up with Colonel Somers!" He added.
“Now you’ve got me doing it as well.” Lamia offered a wry smile. “This is a whole new learning curve now that we have our little one.”
"You have no idea what the Colonel was like back when she was a Major. She has calmed down a lot over the years, but on the occasions we have gotten together, I have noticed the occasional mischievous gleam in her eyes, and I shudder and thank my lucky stars that part of my assignment is over," Chris said.
“Then I should be glad that I don’t have to worry about you being teamed up with her”, Mia grinned.
Suddenly he looked up a look on his face "scuttlebutt is that the Fleet Captain is moving over to command SB51 at the ranks of Commodore and Alex Somers will be taking over Command full time *shudders* of course nothing can be confirmed until the Captain says something, but if this is the case this then this ship would have had 2 former Marines become Naval Captain's in its eighteen years in service under our current Commander.
*then he laughed*
"Oh man, I just remembered Lieutenant Winchester is not in Alex's good books; he will flip if the scuttlebutt turns out to be true," Chris said with much humour.
“Seriously?” Lamia frowned. “Surely that can’t be true, although given what the Fleet Captain has been through, I wouldn’t be surprised.”
"I suppose we will soon find out, but I have looked in on the Colonel's progress at the Academy. Well, the stuff that is available to those without clearance, she will be graduating in September of this year, possibly sooner, but she will graduate as a full Captain. I could not get information beyond that. But the Captain has been looking a little stressed of late, I suppose her PTSD from the time of her Capture and such is still haunting her," Chris said.
Lamia nodded. “That’s true, PTSD can be brutal and lifelong without the right treatment. I’ll check in on her and see how she’s doing.”
Looking over at the bedroom where little Wyatt was sleeping, "Shall we go to bed and try to get some sleep, the holo-nanny can take it for a night?" Chris asked.
Lamia nodded. “I think that’s a nice idea. I’ll admit I’m struggling with adjusting to these nighttime feeds.”
With that, both stood. Chris activated the holo nanny, who smiled and nodded and readied to attend the baby should he need it as the couple went to bed.
