- In the Captain's Ready Room -

Somers was looking over some reports when the door chime sounded and in walked a young Ensign, she was not familiar with, and this one had a cheery disposition, which was a refreshing change.

"Hello Ensign, what can I do for you?" she asked.

"Good day captain," Teela said with a smile. "I just needed to fix a junction here. I got some readings it had some data fluctuation and the power was off a little."

"Really! Okay, get to it Ensign, you know which junction," Somers said, there was one thing she trusted about her crew, all knew what they could and could not do, and she let them do what they knew and accepted that there were things she could not do.

"Thank you, captain," she said, as she got to work. She knelt down and opened up her kit as her tail absently swished side to side. She got a few tools out that she'd need all shapes and sizes, reminiscent of old Earth screwdrivers, pliers, and other such tools.

Teela got started by opening up a wall panel along the side of the room and disconnected a few junctions so she wouldn't get shocked. "Captain," she started, "I don't mean to bother, but I heard we're heading to a jungle planet..."

"Yes, it is in a state where anything larger than a tree cannot survive, it has plenty of flora and the fauna is practically non-existent, it is guessed that something happened centuries ago to wipe out most life on the planet and only now the planet has begun to recover, the planet used to be Xindi territory, the planet used to house the Avian species of the Xindi, but something must have happened on the planet to wipe out around 99% of all life on the planet, now centuries later, large trees and grasses have returned, and the oxygen is high enough for a humanoid to breathe, but the planet still cannot support long-term habitation, this is one of the reasons as to why we are going to investigate, even more so as tachyon and chronoton readings have been detected around the planet, so with recent events Starfleet is concerned, so we go, why do you ask Ensign?" Somers said.

"Well, my home planet is mostly jungle," Teela replied as she continued to work. She disabled a computer sub processor and data bank and replaced a few isolinear chips, a plasma transfer conduit t-split, and a circuit controller. "Most of my people live in what humans would call tree houses, and we spend a lot of time climbing trees. I'd like to go along on the away mission if there's room for me to go, captain."

As Teela was working on the conduit, Somers's Commbadge came to life and it was Lieutenant Dodd, she responded and arranged for the Lieutenant to meet in this Room, she looked at the Ensign, "how much more do you have Ensign?" Somers asked.

"Just about done, captain," she replied. "Just want to make sure the waveguide processor is taking to the new piece before I leave. I don't want your ready room lights or gravity plating to go wonky on the mission." Teela had taken to using some human slang words, and she was just getting used to using words like "wonky" in a sentence. She admired the ability of humans to come up with such cute words to describe things.

"Excellent," Somers said and let the ensign get on with her task.

- Engineering -

After an hour of getting the department ready for departure to Xindaria, Dodd made a walkthrough of the main engineering. His team was dedicated and making him proud of them all. He knew that Taggert would do a great job keeping them all in line while he departed the ship to head the away team.

He returned to his office and sat down. He pulled up all his notes from the briefing. He had Delfin, who was a marine, Thompson, a geologist, and Dr Cahill, who is an amateur archaeologist, all volunteer to go on the mission. He would hope that Tjaansz would accept his invitation to join the team. He was sure this mission would perk her interest since it was a jungle planet. Dodd decided he would need to take a few minutes to gather his notes and make a meeting with the captain to discuss the away team assignments.

=/\= Dodd to Captain Somers. =/\= Dodd made the start of a communication to the captain.

Tapping her Commbadge =/\= Somers here Lieutenant =/\=

=/\= I was hoping to go ahead and get a spot on your calendar to discuss the away team for this mission. =/\= Dodd replied.

=/\=Oh, yeah, I am currently in my Ready Room, come here in about five minutes =/\= Somers said.

=/\= Roger, ma'am. I will be there, Dodd out. =/\= Dodd replied. Dodd then gathered his PADD and the PADD with the mission briefing from Starfleet on it and then headed for the turbo lift to get the captain's ready room.

- Counselling offices -

Iria sat at her desk in a bit of a daze, she had enjoyed the shore leave time she had gotten to spend with Remington, but now it seemed they would be too busy to talk much since he was getting prepared for an away mission that she really didn't have any expertise in. She was concerned but she knew that he was taking no higher risk than anyone was when on an away mission. Still deep down she worried. She cared for him a lot. Tamara and Jorie brought her some Padd's while Samuel and Rhett were helping in Sickbay today. She took the PADD's and started reading them quietly.

- Science Lab 2 -

Ensign Matt Thompson manned his station in science lab two, as an archaeology specialist he didn't man a sensor station but instead made sure the LCARS terminals were operating at peak efficiency. When he was finished with that he decided to read the mission profile again trying to anticipate what he would need and how best to serve the away team he had been assigned too, his first real away team. He made sure that he would be if not valuable to the team at least competent and professional. Truth be told he was anxious and just a little nervous. The Tomcat, after all, was his first deep space assignment. He decided to call up all the records of the Guardian of Forever, specifications, materials, and what was known about that artefact.

- Outside the Marine Armoury -

Down in the ships armoury; Eleonorrhea was standing at the front door of the armoury reading the sign on the door. Seeing that it was sealed from within, and a sign warning anyone without warning to leave the area, Eleonorrhea rang the door alarm and waited.

Inside the arms room; Corporal Hawking’s a young marine was busy inspecting the rifles, making notes on which Marines rifle was dirty, or which had a low battery; when he heard the buzz of the alarm at the front door of the arms room. Looking at the monitor that was pointed at the doorway he recognized the Commander and made his way to the door. Keeping the main doors close, he opened up the smaller pass through door that was large enough for someone to stick their hands through while continuing to watch the commander on his monitor.

"Good morning commander, and how are things to day, ma'am” replied the young Marine as he bent forward staring at the belly of Eleonorrhea.

Normally Eleonorrhea would have used high pitch gruff voice; but being able to go down with an away team seemed to have tempered her usual gruff self into a much friendlier person, and she said.

"Hello Corporal, how are you doing” replied Eleonorrhea in a friendly tone of voice.

“Fine Ma’am, just fine ma’am” replied Corporal Hawkins who was wondering why the normally tough sounding Commander was now this nice little old lady..

“Ma’am will you insert your right hand through the small pass-through door, then place it palm down on the glass reader” replied the Marine. Pressing moderately hard on the glass reader, Eleonorrhea calmly waited as a small light turned green and once it did, Corporal Hawkins opened the door to the armoury. Walking inside the armour she noticed that he wore a regulation, all within the Ships internal security regulations.

-Inside the Ships Arms room-

Waiting until Eleonorrhea was inside the Arms room, Corporal Hawkins shut and secured the main door, and also the small pass-through door then he walked behind Eleonorrhea, going through the front counter pass through door, as Eleonorrhea stood in front of the counter. Then she said

"Corporal Hawking’s I’m going out on a scouting party, and I'll need to sign for several items and I'd like to put them inside one of the lockable storage cabinets inside the Arms room," replied Eleonorrhea.

oO at least the skipper didn't sign out for one of the Maine Phaser Rifles Oo though Corporal Hawkins.

Going with LCPL Hawkins inside the cadged arms room, Eleonorrhea saw the rows of riot control weapons, and picked out a 12 inch expandable baton, a small canister of Pepper Foam, and a very sharp and nasty looking Marine Commando knife, which was inside its nylon sheath. Taking the knife out of its sheath, Eleonorrhea inspected it; then taking a piece of old insulation foam that was lying on the floor of the arms room, she watched as she easily sliced through, like a hot knife through butter. Eleonorrhea now satisfied with her choices, took the three items, and inserted these controlled items safe, that only the armorer had the keys for.

About to walk out of the arms room, Eleonorrhea suddenly had a thought, and turned around saying..

"Corporal Hawkins; on second thought "belay" that last request and put the items I had signed for back in their security vaults" replied Eleonorrhea.

"Yes ma'am" replied Lance3 Corporal Hawkins.. oO "OFFICERS" can't make up their minds whether to sign for a weapon or not, thank god I'm just a lowly Lance Corporal, and not have to worry about these things Oo thought Hawkins as he obeyed Eleonorrhea's last order.

Now satisfied, Eleonorrhea walked out of the Arms room, and as she walked through the main armoured door, she heard the familiar sounds of the door being hurriedly closed, and the sounds of the locks being turned. With a grin, Eleonorrhea returned to her office, for she had an important meeting with the new 2nd Lt that had just come on board.

Dr Cahill went to the bridge and watched as we departed. She took advantage of watching for future reference since she made 2XO.

Once we were under way she approached the Command chair and passed her report. It detailed the facts all personnel had received the required inoculations and everyone was ready to do what was needed.

"Hello Doctor, soaking it all in?" Maia asked

Dr Cahill smiled and looked at Commander Sterling. "I am just watching, as you know it may fall upon me to leave or to enter a space dock as 2XO. I observe when I can for future reference and it also lets me find out what is needed as part of my duties as well.

"That's good thinking but I'm sure that when you took the command course on the holodeck you had to execute launch operations as well as dock operations. I think you just came up here to visit with me". Maia replied.

Dr Cahill replied, I did take the command course on the holodeck several times. But it is still even better to learn from watching in person due to it is good training watching and learning as an experienced officer is doing it too. Also it gives me some review of the course in live time as well.

I have also been running some battle scenarios on the holodecks as well. It allows me to be ready for sitting in the command chair when the ship is attacked by other ships that are hostile. Never know it may happen when I am left in command.

Both the Captain and I have the utmost confidence in your abilities and training, otherwise you wouldn't be the second officer. Maia replied.

- Bridge -

Taggert had her hands full on the bridge, surprisingly. While the ship's systems were often computer controlled, she preferred a more personal touch. Warp power within standard tolerances. Teela was fixing an issue in the captain's ready room, and there were eight other repair teams fixing minor issues.

oO Thank goodness we're out of that alternate reality, Oo she thought to herself. oO It's scary to think that what happened to that other me could've happened to me also. That could've been my fate. Then again, it's scary to think that another me had to go through what I went through. Complete DNA replacement...all my chromosomes, gone, replaced by another...Oo

She was snapped out of her thoughts by an alert. Shield generator and the portside ventral plating.

"Taggert to engineering," she called out over the intercom. "Please send a repair team to deck 8, section 6. The shield systems are reporting some issues with power and the control unit. I don't want any surprises before our mission gets underway. Also, double-check the navigation deflector. We used it for something it was never meant to be used, so I want to make sure all the emitters are working there."

"Repair teams three and five are going now," replied PO2 Lauren Southern. She was the senior-most officer available to answer down there, apparently. Everyone else was busy repairing, meeting about repairing, or otherwise occupied it seemed.

The Comms channel closed and she smiled. At least this was something over which she had some measure of control. And with all the weirdness that life had thrown at her over the last year that helped ease her nerves.

Sombra lay at Alpha's feet under hir assigned station. He let out a soft light sigh as he shifted and rolled over on his side resting his chin on the furry bare feet in front of him. ~ Walk? ~

Meanwhile Aldana 365 continued to monitor the medical station. Key personnel and stations continued to check out. ~ Emergency? ~

~No.~ Sombra communicated.

~ Give me a few more minutes ~ Aldana swivelled hir chair to get a better look at the central position, and Lieutenant Taggert. Even from this angle she was pretty. oO Damn it I wish I could think of a good conversation starter during this down-time Oo S/he surveyed the bridge, and realized s/he' did not have a chance to get to know anyone here yet. oO I suppose that's a good place to start. Oo

"What types of holodeck programs does anyone like to run?" Aldana asked the room.

Those on the bridge were a little too distracted to respond, but they would no doubt respond at a later date.
