– Engineering –

In an engineering lab, Pril and Machado were working on some diagnostic routines. Pril was concerned and starting to worry. Machado was attempting to calm her and keep her focused on her duties.

She was doing all she could to keep from losing it. Dodd was the only chief that she had followed from a previous posting. She thought of him as an older brother not just her supervisor. Machado was doing all he could to keep her in good spirits.

The two engineers were working on cleaning out some subspace data in a buffer in engineering that holds extra data before being erased. This buffer was typically reset every shift but with all that had been happening it was overlooked. So, while working on the process, she had to activate the audio files and that is when she suddenly noticed a faint signal came from the surface of Xindaria within the last hour. She almost dismissed it as background noise, but the beat of the sound was familiar. There was a Ullian Jazz song that Dodd listened to all the time that calmed him down to focus on serious issues. The noise was the beat of that song. She thought it was a mistake, but it was clear that song.

=/\= Pril to Taggert =/\= Pril tapped her Commbadge immediately to report her finding to assistant chief Taggert.

– Jeffries Tubes near Engineering –

=/\=Taggert here, go ahead,=/\= she replied, tapping her Commbadge. Taggert was working on making some adjustments to the plasma transfer conduits, trying to help eliminate the possibility of minor interruptions in power due to temporal distortions. Not something many ships think about, but she had some free time last night as she was working with some LEGOs in her quarters, and the thought came to her while she did so. It helped her think when she worked with her hands and kept her out of trouble.

Her tunic was off in a bundle to provide a little cushion for her as she leaned into the side of the Jeffries tube, her undershirt unzipped to help keep cool while she worked. Luckily, she had her hair up in a ponytail to keep out of the way of the isolinear bank she was almost resting her cheek on.

=/\= Ma'am, I think I found a signal from the chief. =/\= Pril replied =/\= Somehow in the past, he was able to set up a sort of beacon, like what lead us here to begin with but this one is a signal only those of us who know him would recognize. =/\=

Pril and Machado were attempting to determine the age of the message but likely it would need to be examined by the true communications specialist on board. But they were going to keep monitoring the frequency until they could confirm its legitimacy.

=/\=Great,=/\= Taggert replied. =/\=That's perfect! Let's get PO McCray on it. Ashley's one of our best comms experts. I'll be there in just a few minutes=/\=

She closed the comm line. Her mind raced. Somehow they had found a way to send a signal. Phaser, tricorder, comm badge, maybe local tech, all working together? "Focus, one task at a time," she said to herself. She could focus on two or three things at once, but it helped her avoid worry not to do that, especially now.

Back in the main engineering, Taggert walked in, her tunic jacket in her hands, and still unzipped as she found Pril, Machado, and the Petty Officer 2nd Class Ashley McCray walking in.

"Okay, let's go over what we found," Taggert said to the three. "Let's bring it up on the MSD here."

"Great, I will pull up the data stream and all the data we have on it," Machado replied to Taggert's request.

"Ma'am, I am fairly certain that the message we are picking up is on a specific Starfleet frequency but made to look like background radiation as to not have anyone else find it," Pril added. "It is faint but the source is at least two hundred thousand years old but it is coming from the surface of Xindaria."

Taggert simply nodded and she and her team continued on with their tasks at hand.
– Main Sickbay - CMO’s Office –

Ever since the away team’s disappearance Doctor Aldana had needed to take on some of Cahill’s duties, and so, s/he had helped hirself to her office – though s/he had been very careful to put everything s/he used back precisely where s/he got it, and s/he’d been extra careful to clean up any fur and/or hair hir and Sombra may leave behind.

This time, the Kazarite hybrid had need of the away teams most recent medical checks and records. S/he had been studying them, so s/he’d be able to spot any discrepancies when s/he’d finally be able to look each of them over.

After a time, s/he found hirself a bit shaken, and even though Sombra lay at hir feet, s/he felt s/he needed someone… different.

– Counselling offices –

Iria set aside several PADD’s she brought up the away teams most recent evaluations and made notes of possible things to help get them integrated into the ship and routines once they had been cleared by Aldana. She paused as she made her notes and asked the computer to play some music, she asked for a random mixture of Jazz and set back to writing.

– Science Lab one –

CMDR Sterling was in Science lab 1 studying the phenomenon of time folding, and she and her team discovered it was possible for the fold to work in two directions. For a time, the directions were initiation and termination. The temporal dimension that was folded was actually duration. Maia and her team actually came up with a mathematical model to explain what had happened, it turned out that the machine was not actually a guardian type device it was more of a paradox generator.

The science team discovered that it was the temporal analogue of a spatial wormhole, with only two fixed points in time and space. The paradox generator seemed to act as an anchor for the doorway and used chronotrons, anti-tachyons and anti-gravitons on one side which she called the initiation point, and anti-chronotrons, tachyons and gravitons on the other side at the termination point. What happened was that the gravitons and Anti-gravitons would create an envelope of the space-time continuum to form quantum tunnelling effect through time and space. The direction of the fold depended on the type of tachyon emission, tachyons travel backwards in time, Anti-tachyons travel forward in time. At this point in time and space, Maia realized they were at the termination point. She was fairly certain that her missing crewmates were at the initiation point. Maia kept the captain informed on the science teams progress.

As the ship was in orbit of Xindaria Jasmine decided to take a trip down to the Science lab. She wanted to know the latest on what her First Officer’s findings were, so, after a short ride and walk, Jasmine enters the Science Lab.

“Maia, have you found out any more on how our away team vanished and is there any other information on the possibility of getting them back?” Somers asked.

“We think we know what happened and the science behind it.” Maia proceeded to tell Captain Somers in terms she could understand.

“As to getting them back, this seems to be a closed system, the away team will have to get themselves back and in fact may be the catalyst for closing the system,” Maia said.

“I am not liking the sound of that Maia, try to find a way to assist in their return, I am not keen on losing more crew on this mission, we have lost too many over the years in one way or another it would be nice if we did not lose anyone this time” Somers said looking over a PADD which had a condensed version of what Maia said to her.

"If there is a way to do it, captain, we will find it. Things are only impossible until they're not," Maia said optimistically. "At least we know what to look for, now," Maia added.

"Good *changing topic* so do you ever miss doing science duties full-time Maia?" Somers asked just making conversation as she put the Padd down and nosed around the science lab.

"I already do them full-time Captain as well as the duties of a First officer. Odd that you would ask me that, are you considering a replacement for me?" Maia asked.

Looking at her aghast "heavens no Maia, if anything I have been considering moving you out of Sciences and into Command solely, but not just yet but I have been playing with the idea in my head" Somers said and fell silent as she continued being nosey.

"Well its nice to know I have a bit of job security". Maia replied.

Finishing being nosey she stood back beside Maia "Good XOs are hard to find, so you are XO for as long as you feel able to do the job" Somers responded.

"Perhaps when we get our new science officers trained, or someone else can do the job I would be happy to be the full-time XO, Captain," Maia replied.

"Good to know, well I shall leave you to your task, I am going back up to the bridge" Somers announced and left Maia to her duties not waiting for a response.
