Mission: S03 Ep 01: Family Of Slaves (Main Story)
Location: Various
Timeline: Mission 1 S3 - Day 4

[ON]

After the briefing Jasmine finalized things with the Starbase and now entered a quiet bridge and walked around it, initializing the consoles before returning to her seat, then she thought she would test one of her new crew and tapped her Commbadge =/\= Somers to Donovan, how would you like to pilot the Tomcat? =/\= she asked.

Serina had just gotten into the lift when she heard the captain. =/\= I would love to. Be right there=/\= “Bridge,” she said and the lift took her to her destination.

After closing the Communications channel and sitting down, she tapped something into the display screen on her chair arm and only looked up when she heard the lift doors open.

Serina stepped from the lift, a small smile on her face. “Captain,” she said and walked to the helm and took the seat. It was more than a job, it was the honour that went with it. Not only was she CAG but now she had been asked to pilot the ship from space dock. “Captain helm is ready,” she said.

“There will be time for a station roll Call Lieutenant,” Jasmine said “make sure the interface is set up to your style Lieutenant” Somers added.

“Understood captain, however, the controls need almost no change in their configurations,” Serina said briskly, the excitement clear in her voice. Making three or four adjustments, the interface was more to her liking.

*smiling to herself* oO I have never seen such excitement in anyone for a long time Oo Somers thought to herself then looked up as the lift doors opened and the next Officer entered the bridge, she nodded in greeting to them.

Lamia was next onto the bridge, heading to the engineering station at the rear of the bridge a PADD in hand. She still had to meet with First Lieutenant Delfin as the Captain had suggested but she wanted to make sure she had all departments supplied with everything they needed ready for the mission ahead. She nodded and smiled to those present feeling the pressure of being one of the new faces onboard. oO I hope I don’t mess this up! Oo

Serina was comfortable sitting patiently when her commbadge beeped.

=/\=Boss? =/\= Martinson began.

oO Oh my god now what! Oo. =/\=What is it, Martinson?=/\=, Serina said. *turning to look at the captain*

=/\=Um…well…um……I hate to rain on your parade boss but….?=/\=, Martinson stuttered.

oO I’m going to kill him Oo Serina thought. =/\=But what? Boy, you better spit it out. Don’t make me come down there,=/\= Serina replied.

=/\=Well…three of the fighters have plasma coil damage,=/\= Martinson stated.

=/\=WHAT!?!?!?!=/\= Serina exclaimed. Short of getting up and leaving the helm, she replied, =/\=Martinson…now hear this…you get the flight mechanics off their asses and get MY fighters back on the line or I will have YOUR head. Is that understood MISTER???=/\= *still looking at the captain, but now red-faced*

=/\= Yes Boss, Martinson, out =/\= came to the response as the line closed.

“What is it, Lieutenant?” Somers asked, despite hearing what was going on.

“Captain with all due respect I am going to have a few words with my fighter mechanics. Don’t be surprised if some get put on the report,” Serina finished. *turning back around and looking at her console* Bristling with anger she swore she was going to deck Martinson later.

*sigh* “Sort it out later, currently, it is more important to get my ship out of space dock,” Somers said as the Pilot faced front again.

Paul was not happy one bit as he knew those flight techs were still pouring over Paul’s old fighter trying to work out why the throttle had jammed open and had caused the accident that had made him lose his arm. although Serina now had command, he knew that Lauren would take it upon herself to get a report done.

Winchester sat back at his new station on the bridge he continued to look over the intel that was coming in, but understood her anger, he knew that if he had still been CAG, he would have had Shakram give those techs a Klingon wake-up call. He thought about giving Serina that bit of advice.

Iria walked off of the lift a few moments later, she smiled at Somers, Lamia, and nodded at Serina, and Winchester, as she headed for her seat, she got settled, brought up her PADD and began making revisions to the notes she had taken during the briefing.

Maia reported to the bridge after making some last-minute checks on the deflector grid in the deflector control room. She took her station at science-one, bringing the sensors online and running a diagnostic on the LCARS system.

The first officer turned to Serina. “Is there a problem Lieutenant?” Commander Sterling asked.

“Nothing I can’t handle Commander,” Serina said. oO I swear to all the gods, I am going to draw and quarter that Martinson Oo she thought to herself.

Lamia tapped the PADD she was holding the final thing on her checklist had just appeared as completed. “Captain Ops is ready to go; all departments should now have all the equipment they need, and we also have some excess supplies in case of emergencies.”

Iria finished with her primary notes and looked around the bridge, she smiled and then looked to the Captain, “Captain if I may leave the bridge? I want to check that the other counsellors are properly prepared for what we may be dealing with during this mission. There is a lot to take into consideration the effects on the crew and the folks we’ll be rescuing.”

Cody sat down at the comms station and placed an earpiece into his ear, it allowed him to hear communication between the pilots outside of the ship. The displays on his screen showed various areas of the ship including medical and engineering. His role was to monitor all communications, relay any information and try to think through any possible problems and advise as necessary. It was a lot of multi-tasking, but it was an enjoyable challenge.

- Engineering -

Dodd was in his office reviewing the PADD that Winchester had presented to him at the briefing and comparing that with the crew roster for Engineering. He knew that Taggert busted her arse to keep the department running smoothly and he appreciated that more than he could ever express.

=/\= Dodd to Taggert, could you please come to my office? =/\= Dodd said into his commbadge.

Nicole tapped her Commbadge to make the connection =/\= Taggert here Sir, on my way, Taggert out =/\= with that she closed the link and headed to Lieutenant Dodds Office when she finally arrived and entered he looked up at her and spoke.

“So since I was away on the last mission and you did a kick-ass job, I want you to be more flexible this mission and float between the bridge if needed and the main engineering. I will be keeping myself here in engineering unless called out.” Dodd stated to Taggert. “So do you have any concerns with that?”

*Looking surprised* “Thank you, Sir, I will do my best in this and will try not to let you down,” Taggert said.

“Great, I really appreciate you as part of my staff and you are a fine engineer. If there is a need for an engineer to be a part of an away mission and you want to go, I will allow it.” Dodd replied. “Until then, I will be working from the pool table and updated the roster to put the best of the staff on the prime shifts and rotate the secondary shifts so all hands can gain the time and experience needed to improve our staff more.”

Dodd then stood up and walked out of his office with Taggert. He went straight to the pool table and started to get to his task. While he had an office, he wanted to start being more visible available to his staff. He realized when in the ancient past how much he valued his team the wealth of knowledge that each member possesses, and he wanted to be more open to all.

- Sickbay -

Doctor Aldana 365 was keeping busy in sickbay. S/he was checking over the equipment running diagnostics where necessary, and double checking the consumable supplies. S/he double checked to be sure each bio-bed had at least two blankets since sometimes it was the simple things that could help a victim the most. S/he also verified each station had at least one set of good warm comfortable clothing in a drawer nearby. S/he could only guess the sorts of demeaning, skimpy clothing – if any – these sex slaves may have. As s/he went about, the Kazarite couldn’t help but wonder where the hir boss was; s/he could have sworn she had been required to be here. Regardless, it wasn’t a much hir business if the CMO wanted to go against the captain’s wishes.

As the ACMO was keeping busy Sombra was dutifully at hir side. He curiously sniffed at a drawer where Alpha had just placed some fresh coverings. Meanwhile, out of the way nearby, Luuna lay snoozing. Alpha had thought it wise to keep her close for this mission, so here she was; minding her own business for now.

Dr Cahill had finalized what she had to do in Medical then tapped her Commbadge and opened a channel to Captain Somers.

=/\= Medical systems are up and running, all systems are at full power and environmental systems are set to normal settings. Ready to disembark when you are =/\= Cahill said.

Over her Commbadge she heard the Captain’s response.

=/\= Thank you, Doctor you are a little early on the readiness report but thank you, all the same, bridge out =/\= Somers said.

- Bridge -

With everyone now at their stations, it was time to set off on their mission, looking around the bridge she raised her voice above the busy din.

“All Bridge duty stations report status,” She said polling all Bridge Stations.

“Sciences ready, sensors at optimum, Captain. Science officer as ready as she will ever be”. Maia reported.

“Helm ready, navigational systems and both warp and impulse online,” said Serina.

“Intel ready Captain,” replied Paul as he knew that he needed to keep things quiet and find out things from those in the field or from his new team of gatherers that he had acquired back on the station.

“Comms online Captain,” Cody replied while monitoring the various displays on his terminal.

A replacement Tactical Officer having jumped in at the last moment “Tactical and Security all green and ready Captain” he said and got a double-take from the Captain, it was clear Delfin was expected to be at this station.

Lamia turned to look at Somers “Ops is good to go Captain.”

Jasmine turned to face Arderne “thank you, Lieutenant”

When the roll call was completed, she opened the communications =/\= Bridge to Engineering, is my ship ready? =/\= she asked, getting confirmation from the bridge stations was one thing, but she always liked to get a second report where the engines were concerned.

=/\= Dodd here, Captain, your ship is ready and rearing for this mission. =/\= Dodd replied.

=/\= Excellent Lieutenant, Somers out =/\= she then opened a channel to Medical =/\= Bridge to Medical, is everything all square down there? =/\=

Down in Medical Commander Cahill answers the call…

=/\= All medical stations ready and standing by Captain. =/\= Commander Cahill responded to the polling call.

=/\= Bridge, this is sickbay, Doctor Aldana speaking, just putting a last few finishing touches on some minor supplies down here, but otherwise, we’re copasetic down here. =/\=

With the Polling done “Lieutenant Arderne, disengage power cable from the station and switch to internal power, notify engineering” Somers began.

“Aye Captain!” Lamia did as she was asked tapping away at the engineering station, she disengaged the external power cable and switched the ship to its own internal power. She also notified engineering. =/\= Bridge to engineering, external power is disengaged. The ship is now running under internal power. =/\=

=/\= Internal power is fully registered and all external power readings are null. =/\= Dodd replied.

“Lieutenant Parker contact station flight control to undock umbilical bridge and open the space doors” she continued.

“Aye,” Cody replied quickly while toggling the comms channel for flight control. “Flight Control, this is the Tomcat, we are prepared for departure, commence undocking procedures and open the space doors.”

With this done she saw on the viewscreen the star base doors opening as the walkway umbilical retracted, with an intake of breath “Lieutenant Donovan take us out of space dock one-quarter impulse” she said “I know that is against the regs, but I know you can cope, just remember she does not move as fast as a fighter” Somers added.

“Aye, one-quarter impulse, and I won’t scrape the paint sir,” Serina said grinning. Carefully she eased the Akira-class forward, smooth as silk, making sure that her speed was constant. Flying the Akira-class ship was nothing new to her as she had done it before more than once. “Approaching starbase doors sir. Speed remains constant at one-quarter impulse,” she said.

“Thank you, Lieutenant, when we are clear of the Starbase go to half impulse until we are clear of its flight pattern and then head towards Galen IV reports indicate that the Orions have made an appearance there,” Somers said.

“Understood, one-half impulse once clear of space doors and station flight patterns. Course for Galen IV laid in at warp……”, *pausing* “Captain…warp what?”, Serina asked.

“Warp Six, engage when ready” Somers responded to Serina.

“Aye, warp 6 engaging now,” Serina said and punched it. The Tomcat jumped to warp 6 effortlessly and headed for Galen lV.

Watching the screen and the controls in front of her, she realized that maybe as unorthodox as it might be, apparently the captain trusted her flying the Akira class ship herself. This might also mean that when she wasn’t on flight duty, she might be called to be at the helm. oO Nah the captain would never go for that. Not in a million years. I mean it’s been done but……Nah, forget it Oo thought Serina.

- Sickbay -

Meanwhile, Doctor Aldana continued to work at the hir task. Something deep in the pit of hir stomach told hir however, they might not only be encountering humanoid victims. The idea to set up a makeshift Veterinary M*A*S*H occurred to hir, but s/he wasn’t sure where. S/he knew not everyone might agree with treating and caring for any non-humanoid animals right alongside humanoid ones right on the same biobeds. Amiri needed some advice. S/he wasn’t sure whom to go to, however. S/he was still relatively new on this ship, and s/he still hadn’t really developed a rapport with the department head, Doctor Cahill. S/he had sort of gotten to know Paul Winchester though – or at least he liked hir dogs, and he seemed to like animals in general – but s/he just didn’t know who to go to. Paul could help hir bounce a few ideas off him before s/he brought them to the commander, but he might be busy with… who knows what… oO I just don’t know… Oo S/he winced and went with…

=/\= Doctor Aldana to Doctor Cahill =/\=

After some time, the Kazarite hybrid doctor wasn’t getting any response, s/he guessed hir superior couldn’t be bothered with hir, so s/he double tapped to close the channel and open a new one.

=/\= Doctor Aldana to Lieutenant Winchester =/\=

=/\= Winchester here, go ahead Doctor,=/\= replied Paul as he sat at the intelligence station on the bridge, he wondered why Aldana was calling him.

=/\= Lieutenant I hope I haven’t caught you at a bad time, I need to bounce an idea off you, do you have some time? =/\=

=/\= No Doctor you haven’t =/\= replied Paul as he wondered what Aldana wanted from him, he continued, =/\= and So what is it you want me for Doc? =/\= looking back over at Somers, “Captain, may I have permission to leave the bridge?” he asked looking at the Captain.

Looking at Winchester “Permission granted” Lieutenant, Somers said and watched her Intelligence Officer leave the bridge.

The Assistant Chief Medical Officer frowned to hirself, she could hear what was going on in the background over the open channel. =/\= Oh, Paul, I did not intend to take you from your duties, I just needed to bounce an idea off you. =/\=

=/\= I will be down at Sickbay shortly, Winchester out =/\= Paul said and signed off as the lift doors opened and he entered the lift, although he had to check on the new staff that he had gotten for his department. The doors closed, he wondered why the Doctor was saying sorry for. He said “Sickbay” as the lift started on its journey, Paul wondered if the Doctor had a plan with helping the girls after they had saved them.

Elsewhere...

=/\= You have my permission to do it, Aldana. Suggest you use cargo bay 2. It will have all the space you need for it. =/\= Dr Cahill responded.

The Kazarite-Hermat hybrid doctor was astonished. S/he had not even had a chance to make the proposal to hir boss let alone ask for permission, the assumption Aldana came to would be simply that the Doctor was good at her job to anticipate Aldana as she did. =/\=Uhm… Right… Commander, uhm… I wonder if there is space closer to sickbay; we wouldn’t want the transporter tech. getting confused where to send beings, right? Unless given the emergency we just, treated either humanoids or non-humanoids alike where ever they arrived? =/\=

Dr Cahill replied, =/\= I use cargo bay 2 as secondary sickbay if the main sickbay gets damaged; it along with cargo bay 4 are secondary locations for sickbay in an emergency as well.

The transporter room has a complete detailed list of what to do in all cases involving sickbay. =/\=

=/\= Understood, sir, I’ll get to work right on it. Thank you, sir. =/\= Doctor Aldana 365 responded as s/he and Sombra left the main sickbay headed for the afore-suggested cargo bay.

Cahill signed off and returned to her duties in Medical.

- Bridge -

Back on the bridge Somers was looking around and was wondering where Delfin had gone, she was not aware that she had left the bridge, she looked over to Parker “Lieutenant Parker Man the main Security Tactical station” she said.

“Aye Captain,” Parker replied quickly. He moved from the Comms station to the Sec/Tac panel. He ran his hands along the sides for just a moment taking a deep breath, “Hello old friend,” he whispered quietly.

Quickly he reviewed the shields and weapons statuses, verified that all systems were online and ready to go. The panel also displayed information on the pilots’ ships that would be patrolling and making initial contact. He scrolled through the ships and pilot code names before settling in.

“Everything at Sec/Tac is good to Captain” Parker responded.

“Excellent, thank you, Lieutenant,” Somers said and faced forward.

With that, the ship was finally clear of all celestial and other bodies and jumped to warp heading for Galen IV.
