- CRR -

Landing first, Serina secured her fighter and proceeded to the captain’s ready room and hit the door-chime.

Jasmine had not been in her RR long when her door chime sounded, she stood and looked out of the window onto the still starscape before her and spoke “enter” she heard the door*whish* open, she was at Parade rest and her back to the officer who just arrived.

*taking a deep breath* “Lt. Jg. Donovan reporting as ordered sir,” she said. oO oh brother here it comes, and I botched it good Oo

Still, with her back to the pilot and in a calm controlled voice that held anger behind it “Lieutenant Donovan, did they teach you in the Academy to disregard instructions from a senior Officer?” Jasmine asked finally turning in stiff military fashion to face the Lieutenant and still at Parade Rest.

“No, sir…” Serina said standing at attention. Knowing she was in hack with the CO, she kept her answers to a minimum until given a chance to explain.

“So, I assume then that flight school was the same, they taught you to listen and accept instruction, yes?” Somers asked picking up steam but paused to let the pilot answered.

“Yes sir, and I made the mistake of missing your command to join my squadron,” Serina said accepting her error in judgement.

“I see, it is good that you should readily accept your failure, this is good, it shows the character of will, but this does not detract from the fact that you disregarded my instruction to launch with your Squadron. Now the CAG on a Starbase may remain on the base, but on a ship like the Tomcat the CAG is expected to hit space in a fighter along with his or her pilots as and when directed by the Captain, First Officer or acting Captain on a night shift, does this sound correct to you Lieutenant Jg Serina Donovan?” Somers intoned.

“Yes, Captain quite correct. I do apologize for my error in judgement, something that will not happen again, I guarantee it, Captain,” Serina said. She knew she screwed up and was going to accept whatever reprimand was handed down to her.

*hiding a smile* “You saw the trouble the fighters were in out there and while it is unknown if your involvement would have improved their odds. Luckily all worked out okay, but next time when you are given a task I expect you to obey, now what to do with ye, what to do with ye such disobedience Cannae go unpunished” Somers paused and looked stonily at Donovan as she pondered the woman’s punishment she had to take in operational considerations. *long pause*

*thinks long* "I have decided, when not on duty you will be confined to quarters a guard will be stationed outside your quarters and will escort you to shift and back to your quarters at the end of it, this will go on until otherwise stated, do you understand Lieutenant?" Somers asked.

Serina's heart dropped a few feet and her knees nearly buckled. To be confined to quarters was the worst thing to happen to her. Of course, it was better than being grounded, but this meant she could not do the maintenance on her fighter. Now that hurt! It also meant no holodeck and her fighter simulations and a bunch of other things as well. oO Damn it Serina how f******stupid could you be! Oo *looking at Somers* "Understood sir. One thing.....the maintenance of my fighter....normally I would do that personally. This punishment would stop me from completing that task?", she asked. Serina was visibly angered by this and struggled to remain complacent. Angry mostly at herself for not listening well while on the bridge and for not flying with her pilots.

Somers saw how visibly shaken the Lieutenant was, hopefully she would not make the same mistake again "Yes it would, but as a small reward for your admission a guard will escort you to your fighter when ready, make your checks a good one as this will be the first and last time you will do this while under punishment, leave instructions with the flight crew for future maintenance, my techs are the best in the Sector, you will be able to resume normal movement, when I say so. So when you do your self-maintenance this time make sure to leave specific instructions with the engineers" Somers said, she hoped that Serina would realise that she was not yet grounded when she came to respond.

"Thank you, Captain. While I realize that I have not been grounded yet, being confined to quarters is almost as bad. Not being able to do my normal daily routine hurts deeply. Getting to know my pilots will have to wait until my punishment is lifted. Damn it, captain, I know better, and I am sorry for getting loud but I am angry with myself. None of this would have happened had I just handed over the helm, but no......*smacking herself in the head*I had to stay and pilot the ship. Stupid bitch!", Serinna fussed*hitting the desk in anger*. "I apologize captain for my outburst", she added.

"Well let this be a lesson to be learned, Lieutenant, now go return to the helm, dismissed" Jasmine said and watched the Lieutenant leave, her body language was that of self-anger and disappointment Jasmine knew this would not happen again, or at least she hoped.

- Bridge -

Prior to communication…

Tabor and his squadron after getting word to take out the mines Tabor formed his squadron up and glanced at the other squadrons landed oO lucky beggars Oo he thought to himself then returned his attention to the task at hand =/\= Okay Rebels start the minesweeping and shoot from 200 clicks these mines may have a larger explosive yield than we hope for =/\= he said and got acknowledgements a moment later there was a very bright flash as a mine exploded “yup as I thought” he said to himself.

As time went on the Rebels flew about the area taking care of any mines one was drifting close to the Tomcat so he blew it up and used his sensors to scan for any more mines and only when he was satisfied did he open a communications channel to the Tomcat.

Somers was now back on the bridge “how goes the mine clearance?” She asked and she was saved from a response as the Comms opened up.

=/\= Tabor to Tomcat, all mines are cleared, the shuttle can depart when it is ready, bringing squadron back to barn =/\= Tabor announced.

=/\= Thank you, Lieutenant, Somers out =/\= Somers responded and looked to Sterling “Maia get as much updated information you can on that disabled ships and send it to Lieutenant Aldana and tell the Doctor that they are good to go” she instructed as Serina returned to the helm station.

“Aye Captain,” Sterling replied going back to her sensors and trying to figure out who or what was still alive.

The radiation levels were pretty high. Any boarding parties would require radiation suits and medical specialists were instructed to carry extra Hironalyn for any survivors they might encounter. Life forms were varied. It was definitely a mixed bag, but the crippled ship was a luxury passenger liner. Maia called up the registry. SS Trelesta two weeks out of Risa. Maia was now picking up a faint distress call from the liner. Their main reactor was damaged and leaking, and life-support was only operating at 25 per cent and falling. Most of the filtration systems are out. Containment was spotty at best.

Maia reported her findings to the Captain and CC’d Medical as well as…

“Captain that ship will need to be evacuated immediately. Recommend we use shuttles as transporters wouldn’t be safe under current circumstances.” Maia advised,

“Understood Commander contact the shuttle bay and have them assign as many as needed for this task” Somers said.

"Yes, Captain I have just done it" Maia answered finishing up her task.

She turned to the helm station “Lieutenant Donovan get down to the Fighter recovery bay and get mission reports from your pilots that were in combat” Somers ordered.

“Understood captain,” Serina said handing off the helm to Lt. Winchester. Leaving the bridge, Serina sighed a big sigh of relief. She didn’t mind taking the helm and flying but she should have handed off the helm and lead her pilots. Something she would not do again regardless of what she was doing.

Dr Cahiil passed her report on all sickbay activities. They had been lucky only 18 minor injuries and could return to duty. She was a bit apprehensive about an OA mission going on and not being part of it. She knew as 2XO her duties would require her to stay on board, but she found herself wanting to go anyway. She passed her report and continued to watch the Orion ship. She knew if it was her ship, the damage control teams would work to make all the necessary repairs needed to get away from the enemy

She found herself thinking out loud without thinking, “Does it get any easier to send subordinates into dangerous situations?”

“No, but as a Captain, XO or 2XO, your first duty is to the ship. Besides we all had to go into harm’s way at some point in our careers. If they make it, we will get better officers, I don’t even want to think about if they don’t make it. I prefer to think positively about it, thinking negatively is ultimately defeatist and serves no useful purpose.” Maia replied.

I know but you sometimes find yourself wanting to protect them from harm, much like they were children, but you do have to learn to trust them though.

And even before becoming 2XO, I always put the ship first. Without a ship we are helpless.

"I know Commander, we have known each other some years, so I know your dedication to this ship" Maia said with a smile at Cahill.

Lamia sat at Ops keeping a close eye on the ship’s systems and what was going on off ship as well. For now, all she could do was make sure any systems that might be needed had every ounce of power they’d need. Her telepathic and empathic senses were firmly trained on what was happening around her, as they always were.

Paul had known that this was now the start of the mission, here and now with the mines being cleared and getting close enough to get the Doctor’s team aboard as he wanted the information to know where to go next.

- Counselling department -

Iria sat at her desk trying to look at the reports in front of her, there was a lot going on from every direction. Tamara and Rhett had gone to help in Sickbay, Jorie – with her eye still a lovely shade of blue-purple bruising from the cargo bay setting up – and Samuel were talking with a Petty officer just outside the main office.

- Engineering -

While the Chief was away, Lt. Taggert had been left in charge of things. She was glad she wasn’t on this away mission, but she did enjoy getting off-ship when possible, especially on planets. Holodeck time is great and all, but nothing beats the real thing, in her mind at least.

oO I really dislike the Orions, Oo she thought to herself as she set things up. oO The scientist who ran the experiments got away. I wonder where he escaped to. Maybe the Gorn gave them safe haven…Oo

Nicci was getting a low-level diagnostic set up to make sure things were running smoothly when Pril came up with Arlen Bowen, one of the warrant officers specialized in electrical engineering, an important field, especially on a starship, since practically everything was electric. He was 180cm, tan due to his half-Guam heritage, with green eyes and wavy hair.

"Hello, Taggert. Bowen and I have the update you requested," stated Pril as she and Bowen approached Taggert.

"Hey, Pril, Mr Bowen, what’s the update?" she asked as she tapped a few more settings on the diagnostics.

"The last scan of the system had a few minor bugs on Decks 3 & 4. However, all of the rest of the systems checks had been approved by Chief Dodd. He had not gotten the last update before he had to depart. The electrical systems are operating within parameters. I am sure Chief Dodd trusts you to make the necessary decisions for the Tomcat,” Pril replied to Taggert’s question.

“Well, lucky for the Chief,” Nicci said with a smile. “Since we’re needing to be in top form here, let’s recheck the isolinear chips all along deck 3 and 4’s subprocessors. Grab Tjaansz if you need her. There were some variances there a little outside the norm. I just want to double-check to make sure no chips were overheating or shorting, and Mr Bowen’s the best on the ship regarding the electrical systems.”

"We will get it taken care of right away, ma’am,” responded Pril.

"It might take us around 8 hours to get through it all," Bowen cautioned when he saw the PADD Nicci handed the two and the number of chips she wanted to be checked."

"Try 4 hours," Nicci suggested. "Tomcat's chips often run in parallel linkage, so if you fix one, it will often fix an issue on the connected chips in the same bank. So there are a lot of checks to make, but if you fix one you could fix up to 10 other chips at the same time."

Pril simply nodded and returned to work.
