Lieutenant Commander Samantha Smithson had finally arrived on the classified Starbase 51 out in the Mira Sector, she was surprised that it was still being constructed, but most of it was done, but when she arrived the arrivals area was practically deserted, suddenly two Non Com Marines rushed up to her, one was an MCWO the other a Sergeant Major, the female had unusual red hair the male was the type that would blend in and could move about unremarked, she knew Captain Somers was currently out on a mission, she had never met the Captain and hoped that she would do so at some point, now she stood before the two marines, who seemed to know not to salute a Fleet Officer, this told her that they were not fresh-faced. Both, however, wore a white band around the base of their shoulders and their rank insignia was different to other marine units, she was intrigued.

"Hello I am Lieutenant Commander Samantha Smithson, I am to be the new CoS on Starbase 51," she said in greeting, the female was giving her a favourable look; it was the male who elbowed the woman who looked abashed.

"Oh! hello I am Master Chief Warrant Officer Karyn Somers current interim Chief of Security, this is Sergeant Major Kildare officially we are of the 95th Rifles but have been roped into Security duties, I have to say I am happy to see you, I am authorised to hand over command of Security to you and all that remains is the clearance motions" Karyn said.

Sam felt her knees weaken as the Sergeant Major smiled oO Oh my! So unexpected Oo she thought to herself, Karyn noted her reaction to Kildare's smile and inwardly sighed but looked back at the Officer.

"Welcome to Starbase 51 commander let’s do the hand over where we can also get you assigned quarters," Karyn said.

Suddenly Sam remembered the woman's surname "Somers, are you related to the Captain by any chance?" Sam asked.

"Yes she is my cousin," Karyn said and Smithson nodded as she followed the marines to the Security Office.

When they were all in the Security officer Sam put her bags down and walks up to the console in the wall "place your hand there Commander" Karyn said and Sam did so, while this was going on Kildare was prepping her id's and clearances befitting her rank.

With her hand on the screen the computer recorded her DNA "okay Command speak your clearance code and that will place you as head of Security on the Station, now if you go over to Kildare he will assign you an ID badge and Station Security clearance codes, then it is only the verbal left" Karyn said.

Sam did as instructed thinking that this was elaborate, but considering the stations name, she was not overly surprised, Kildare looked up at her as he handed her ID and an Isolinear chip. "here is your ID card Sir, it is to be worn in sensitive areas and when the station is on alert, it can also be used as a DNA identifier in times of emergency to allow you unrestricted access" he paused "this chip has all your Departmental Head security codes on it and command codes, as of now you have unlimited access to every secured areas on the station" he said.

She took the items "thanks Kildare" she said then looked at Karyn "Computer start recording" she said and the computer bleeped indicating that it was recording "computer record of today’s date that all Chief of Security functions and rights of said post are now passed from Master Chief Warrant Officer Karyn Somers SFMC to Lieutenant Commander Samantha Smithson Starfleet Security" she said "completed" was all the computer said and went silent.

"Well Commander the Department is now yours to command as you see fit, all latest security reports are on your desk for you to catch up on, myself and Kildare have to finish checking the armouries" Karyn said.

"Understood Chief" Smithson said and sat behind the desk and began reading, as the two Non-Coms returned to the tasks that they were doing prior to Sam's arrival.
