- Engineering -
Things were slowly getting back to normal in Engineering. Repairs were underway, while everyone moved to and fro purposefully. Not a single one of them were idle. Even Nicci was keeping busy. She wanted to make sure the Chief’s bailiwick was as good as it could be by the time he got back down here.
Underneath one of the consoles connected to the Master System Display, passersby could see a shapely torso with a tank-top sticking out of it. She couldn’t help jiggling a little up top as she fiddled with components, conduits, wiring, and isolinear chips up inside the wall. Her head and arms were hidden inside, leaving the identity of the owner unknown. Her hips flared a bit too toned legs that propped her up, while Teela helped by handing her various tools as she asked for them.
“Spanner,” she asked.
“Spanner,” Teela replied, putting it into Nicci’s hands.
The tool whirred and flashed as it was used, then given back.
“Isolinear recalibrate.”
“Isolinear recalibrate.”
“Clamp,” Nicci asked, her hand reaching out.
“Clamp? We don’t have one of those. Do we need it?”
Nicci started laughing a little, before replying, “No, it was a joke.” She laughed a little more before continuing. “A lot of old 20th-century T.V. shows have doctors asking for a dozen clamps on their patients to staunch the bleeding.”
“Oh no, is the computer bleeding?” Teela asked her voice one of the actual concerns.
“No, Teela,” Nicci said in a sisterly tone with a bit of a laugh. “I’m just messing around a little. I’ve been up for about 36 hours straight, so a little humour helps relieve the tension a bit.”
“Oh, ok, I get it,” Teela said, wide-eyed, as she sat Indian-style next to her friend. “You humans have a lot of jokes. It’s a lot to remember. But I guess my tree-jokes kind of fall flat too.”
“Yeah, the one about the maple and the palm tree houses went way past me,” Nicci said with a little giggle.
“That’s my favourite!” Teela said, laughing again at something she’d heard back on her home planet that she still found hilarious. For a planet whose dominant species were tree-dwellers for a good part of their history, they did have a lot of tree-based jokes.
In the wall, Nicci smiled, shook her head, and kept working, she didn’t know they had a visitor who had silently taken Teela’s place.
After once again leaving Sterling in command of the bridge Jasmine took a trip down to engineering and as she stepped out of the lift she walked into a very busy level and finally she entered Engineering silently Jasmine took the place of Teela as she crouched down “So Lieutenant how’s it looking?” Somers asked with a smile.
*THUD* Nicci was surprised at the captain’s voice instead of Teela’s, hitting her head against a conduit, withdrawing her head gingerly. “Captain, welcome to the mess,” Nicci said, rubbing her head. She blushed a bit at her state of dress, in a work-worn tank-top, with smudges and some sweat on her, showing more skin than she usually did. “We’re still cleaning up after the fighting and all. Work in progress. We’re about 85% capacity, and almost done with all the repairs we can get done here without a starbase to finish things up and put a pretty bow on it. Are we done breaking the Orions’ toys?” She chuckled a little at her humour.
*hiding a smile at the thud* “So in layman’s terms, then the ship is still usable, but you would prefer it if we never enter another battle and managed to make it home without firing another shot?” she said with a smile.
She nodded as she rubbed her sore head. “Something like that, Captain,” she replied. "That'd make my month if you could promise that," she chuckled a little. "I wouldn’t try fishtailing with the ship just yet.” She stood up, and gave the captain a PADD, showing the overall status of the ship to thumb through.
“If we have some computer banks of the Orions’, I’d like to take a crack at breaking their encryption codes,” Nicci said as the captain looked through the report.
She looked through the report “sadly we do not have any databanks of the Orions’, and you need not worry about fishtailing, I thought you should know Lieutenant Dodd is in Medical, we got our people back and all are currently getting injections to eradicate a synthetic pheromone that attracts both genders to each other, so until he is declared fit for the duty you are in charge of engineering, can you handle that?” Somers said ending with a question.
"Yes ma'am, I can do it," Nicci said, with a smart salute. Inwardly though, her pulse just quickened, and her ice-blue eyes started changing to a blue-green colour. "Good to hear they're getting some medical attention. Coming from personal experience I know how pheromone sensitivity can mess with you." Nicci conveniently left out her experience with the doctor. "As for engineering, I'll make sure I keep your ship humming so we can make it back to starbase in one piece."
"if you need anything please don't hesitate to ask," Maia said.
- Sickbay -
Iria sat still watching as the doctors, nurses, and the recovering survivors from the Orion station got settled into the start of their various treatments. Since she wasn’t pregnant and in no danger of immediate health problems Iria read over the notes of what pheromones, and hormones, had been introduced into their systems by the Orion doctors. The notes were given to them by the Prelate before they’d been beamed back to the USS Tomcat, she didn’t understand all of it but she had enough knowledge to get a general idea. She was still feeling upset, confused and angry. She was sure she wasn’t the only one.
Meanwhile, Doctor Aldana was across sickbay, in decon. S/he was still labouring over the Edosian female to administer the cure for the Drama II Plague which had only affected the Edosian, but Aldana hadn’t wanted to take any risks, so s/he’d kept hir team small; utilizing only one nurse. The treatment was complicated and had to be replicated in its parts before it could be combined and administered.
As an added precaution, Aldana hadn’t wanted to risk exposing Sombra. He may not have been able to contract the disease, but who knew if he could be a carrier, so since he’d been thoroughly scanned for the plague and checked out clean, he was forced to wait outside of decon. This was where Sombra was now, and he sighed deeply. Bored.
Sombra casually scanned the room and spotted really only one being who didn’t appear all that busy. The human-looking redhead with a scent that just wasn’t right. He didn’t know her designation, but he figured he’d go and try to make friends. After all, they had at least one thing in common.
Sombra wandered over to the woman who turned out to be Walon and waited to be noticed.
Iria was reading over the PaDD in her hands but she noticed a warm presence near her feet and glanced down. She eyed Sombra who was visually different from her first meeting. She shook her head slightly quietly telling the intelligent canine that this wasn't the time to play or anything. She wasn't a veterinarian and had no idea if he had Injuries that needed attention. Iria certainly wasn't going to risk a scene with some much going on.
- Serina’s quarters -
Serina was laying on the couch resting while John was preparing dinner. The twins were sleeping quietly as they had just been fed. John couldn’t figure out how they grabbed Serina in the first place. She was sitting in her fighter one minute and the next she was gone.
Serina suddenly started screaming! “No……wait……what are you doing to me? No……stop you can’t do that! I don’t want to be pregnant………no……please stop…I am not married…please!”
John dropped the dishes and ran to the couch shaking her as he arrived. “Serina……Serina……
honey wake up, please! Your dreaming hun!” John said still shaking her.
Suddenly coming out of the nightmare, she was flailing at John who quickly grabbed her in a bear hug until she fully woke up. “No…oh John it was horrible! I tried to fight but they paralyzed me and did what they wanted to do. I felt so dirty and unclean……I was violated, raped of my……oh John I couldn’t fight them……” Serina said as she started crying.
“Shhhhhh……Serina please stop crying. Everything is fine and we are getting married and the babies will be raised by your parents on SB51. Please don’t worry anymore. Everything will work out,” John said comforting Serina. Suddenly the twins started to cry announcing they were hungry.
- Bridge -
Now she was back on the bridge she looked at the readouts and saw that they were nearly home, she looked over to Sterling “so Maia you looking forward to some R&R on the Starbase? latest reports in that the internals of the station is almost completed, so more areas open to us, I am also planning an awards Ceremony for when we get back to the Starbase” Somers said.
“I have to admit a little R&R would be a welcome thing. An awards ceremony sounds appropriate. We should also get those who were captives some serious help. They may be suffering from PTSD.” Maia replied.
*nods* she looks around at Parker “Cody can I speak to you in my Ready Room?” She asked.
“Yes ma'am” Cody replied and stepped out from behind his console and followed the Captain to the ready room.
- CRR -
Somers was the first to enter her Ready Room slightly ahead of Parker, she waited till he was fully in and the doors closed, she turned to face him “you are not in trouble Cody” she said with a smile.
“That’s a relief,” Cody said with a smile as he postures relaxed slightly. “How can I help you, ma'am?”
“It is Captain, not ma'am and if it is used only in certain instances *changing tone* I would like to broach something with you when you returned to the Tomcat it was Mission Advisor and when the slot came up for Security Chief you managed to fill out both roles well, but I would like to move you out of our Mission Advisor post and into Security full time, what do you think?” she asked.
“That would be fine Captain, whatever you think is best,” Parker replied. He didn’t mind the lightening of the workload; it would mean less paperwork which was always a bonus.
*smiling* “Excellent, the move from Mission Advisor to full Security Chief will be immediate and as we are almost home, I want you to begin reorganizing your Department,” she said.
“Thank you, ma'am, I will begin immediately,” Cody replied quickly.
“Remember Cody, I want a nice secure ship,” she said.
“Aye Captain,” Cody said as he moved to attention, did a sharp about-face, and left the Captain’s ready room.
“Dismissed,” she said and watched him leave her Ready Room, inhaling she stood up and returned to the bridge.
- Serina’s Quarters -
Serina sat at her computer console trying to think of how to explain to her parents that they were grandparents of twin babies.
“Hun just come out with the truth. That is always the best thing to do,” John said sitting next to her.
“It isn’t that easy John. You know how mom and dad are. Marriage before babies, that sort of thing. While they know we are getting married, telling them that they are going to have two grandchildren produced by an experiment gone wrong is not fun,” Serina said.
“Honey just call them. I am sure Starfleet will have told them of the incident by now. For all you know they could be on SB51 now waiting for us to dock,” John said, holding her tightly.
“I suppose you are right myself love. I will talk to them now. Stay with me please?” she asked.
“Nope, the twins have to be fed. You talk to parents, I got our children,” John said kissing her on the forehead leaving her alone to do this.
As Serina went to send the com, the terminal beep twice indicating she had a subspace message. Much to her surprise, it was from her parents. They were on SB51 awaiting their arrival. oO How did they know? Was it true that SF told them what happened? Oo she thought. Running into the bedroom where John was tending to the babies, “John …John they know. They are on the Starbase waiting for us to dock. What am I going to do…tell them what? I am terrified John……terrified they will denounce me or worse!” Serina said crying into his shoulder.
“Serina…honey, relax, everything will work out. They will understand and they will be tickled pink to know they have two healthy, happy grandchildren. Sh……now come on and stop crying. Your gonna make yourself sick and then what? The kids need their mom,” John said caressing her cheek wiping away the tears, he kissed her passionately.
“John you always know how to make me see your love for me and the children. Honey, I love you more than you could ever dream of,” Serina said.
- Bridge -
As she returned to the bridge she looked around and then to the helm and noted that they would be dropping out of warp soon, turning to her XO “SITREP Commander, is all systems and such working okay and eta on arrival at SB51?” She asked.
"Captain repairs are proceeding, Lt. Taggert informs me that there will be very little to repair if she has anything to say about it. We are on course for Starbase 51. Our current speed is warp 5. Or the current ETA is 2.4 days. It will take longer for our people to recover than the ship Sir." Maia replied.
*Smiling* "Thank you, Commander," Somers said and sat in her chair and pulls up some files on her small chair arm screen as the ship moved through warp heading for Starbase 51.
