Seven days later the U.S.S. Tomcat dropped out of warp on the dark side of the Galen IV’s moon; as the ship settled in Captain Somers turned to the Communications station where Lieutenant Walon was sitting, this would take some getting used to as the Lieutenant was also in grey and as CIO she would be spending a lot of time on the bridge at communications, but now it was to duty.
“Lieutenant Walon, scan all communication channels and see if you can get us an update on what the current state of affairs is,” the Captain ordered “you should have covered basic communications at the Academy, also I want all my crew to be able to do other tasks if needed” the Captain added.
Iria fought against commenting, as she looked over the console, yes, she had communication basics at the academy but hadn’t done any of it since leaving the academy. Iria had done counselling, writing reports, and had picked diplomatic training, weeks ago. Now here she was, trying to remember what to do at the communication console of the bridge while trying to still get used to being the Chief of Intelligence and Counseling. After a few moments more of reading over the controls, she started carefully tapping at the console to bring up the information the Captain requested.
Somers turned to Parker “Cody get the tactical away team ready, Type-II hand phasers only, plain clothes, badges and weapons hidden; Galen IV is essentially independent so the less Starfleet the teams look the better. Phasers set to maximum stun. Take Sergeant Major Kildare with you he will look over the bombsite and will say if there are any more devices there. When he is done and deems it safe he will call your team in, but he will need to have someone watch his back; I am told he gets engrossed in his work and loses all awareness on what goes on around him.” *Looks back at Walon* “Iria get identification set up for the away teams so they are from an independent security contractor investigation service from New Sydney and a science team from the same place; make sure the credentials are air-tight,” the Captain finished.
“I will make it so, Captain,” Parker replied. He would make sure to issue plain clothes to his away teams, that would not scream Starfleet or resources. They wouldn’t practice the grey man principle, a fancy term to describe someone attempting to blend into the background and remain unnoticed.
Iria nodded, “I will need to know who is assigned to each team to get the proper IDs supplied,” She said lightly as she kept her gaze on the console before her, reading the information and getting ready to report as she found the relevant information.
Somers looked at Parker again and had a resigned expression, “I want you to lead the tactical/security away team, so assign who you need, but Kildare is a must, get Lieutenant Winchester up here to take over from you at security/tactical” she added.
“Aye,” Parker replied quickly, “I will get Winchester up here at once sir.”
=/\=Winchester, take over the bridge watch, Parker out =/\=
- Security Office -
Paul sat in the office going over the security reports for the last hour, and with the marine stationed outside, Paul still felt like a caged animal. Although he knew that this was his fault, it was how he felt. Suddenly as he started to read the next PADD he heard Cody call him and stood up pushing the chair back and headed towards the exit where he found his escort.
Paul said, “Major Donovan, I am needed on the bridge,” looking at the Major who had been standing outside the office, he continued, “Shall we go?” he said before he set off for the bridge.
*she looked at him as he moved away from her* “you are on duty Lieutenant, now get to the bridge” S'arila said and headed to Marine country.
Captain Somers looked at her First Officer. “Maia assembles your science team, they are to scan the surroundings and send the data up to the ship and sickbay and Intelligence, same for your team Cody,” she said without looking at Parker.
“Aye Captain,” Maia said.
“Also, I have a task for Lieutenant Walon, so she is not to be assigned to any away team for the moment” the Captain added as she looked at her First Officer.
“Understood Captain, I’ll take Doctor Aldana instead. Hir animal-telepathic ability may come in handy.” Maia stated.
“Got it,” Parker made another note, plain clothes, small tricorder, ensure data uplink, phasers, and Winchester on the bridge.
*Nodded and tapped her Commbadge* =/\= Somers to Dodd, Lieutenant is the reflective and stealth materials equipped on the shuttles? =/\= the Captain asked.
=/\= Sir, the shuttles are finishing the testing scenarios for the shields and stealth panels. The panels also have holo-projectors embedded within them to help mask the shuttles into the space they occupy more so than just the panels repelling the radar signals. They should be ready in say… the next hour. =/\=
=/\= Excellent work Mister Dodd be advised I may have a separate task for you shortly=/\= the Captain instructed.
=/\= No problem, sir. I am always willing to help no matter what. =/\= Dodd responded.
=/\= Acknowledged Lieutenant, Somers out =/\= she closed the link and looked at her Helm Officer “Lieutenant Donovan take us into the standard orbit of Galen IV’s moon on its dark side if you will” the captain instructed.
“Understood sir. The standard orbit of the moon on the dark side,” Serina said. She brought the Tomcat into its standard orbit on the dark side of the moon smartly and quickly. “Orbit achieved sir,” she replied.
As Paul arrived on the bridge and headed over to the security station, he said, “I’m here to relive you, lieutenant,” looking at Parker, he added, “good luck with the away mission,” meanwhile the thought came to Winchester’s mind that he still had to make amends with the colonel and he hoped that she had calmed down enough for him to speak with her.
“Good luck up here Lieutenant, keep ‘er in one piece,” Parker said as he walked to the turbolift.
“I will Cody,” Paul replied as he relived the Lieutenant from the station and started his prechecks to make sure everything was in working order and hoped that there was no need to use them. However, he knew that things could go pear-shaped at any given time. Paul then called out, “weapons are online, Captain, should you need them,”
*Without looking,* “thank you, Lieutenant, Passive Scanning with tactical sensors” the Captain said.
Paul responded,” Passive scanning running now Captain,” as he started to tap in commands upon the tactical station as he said,” Nothing on sensors at the moment Captain,” as he hoped that this was not a trap to gain control of the ship.
“Thank you, Lieutenant,” the captain said without looking back as she was looking at the viewscreen.
With all this going on she tapped her Commbadge =/\= Somers to Taggert, I will need you to keep my ship in working order as I will be assigning Mr. Dodd to a separate mission =/\= the Captain said.
=/\=Taggert here, captain,=/\= Nicci replied from the Assistant Chief Engineer’s office down in engineering. =/\=I’ll make sure the lights stay on, and leave a key under the mat for him,=/\= she said with a very old Earth reference. If anything, she had an affinity for Earth history.
When the link had closed she looked at her CAG slash CHO “Lieutenant Donovan, keep this ship on the dark side of the moon, this satellite has the same rotational period as that of earth’s moon and I do not want to get us caught” she said.
“Understood. I will keep us in the dark shadows of the moon. I don’t want to get us caught with our pants down either,” Serina said grinning.
*smiling* “you scratch my ship Lieutenant and I will ground you, only I can scratch my ship. Capeesh?” The Captain asked with humor in her tone.
“Yes, sir!” Serina replied chuckling.
With a smile, Somers tapped her Commbadge =/\= Somers to Aldana =/\=
- Main sickbay -
Meanwhile, Doctor Aldana hadn’t been given much to do before they arrived at the planet and s/he were called to join one of the away teams, and since the briefing, sickbay had been relatively quiet, so s/he’d been going about hir shift finding productive things to do.
Part of Amiri had desired to spend more time with Luuna, since s/he had been able to include her in on any missions recently, so needing to stay in sickbay, s/he’d requested an off duty medical intern help hir by going to collect Luuna and bring her to sickbay for… hmm… a teeth cleaning would due…
The intern had just returned with Luuna on a leash, and Aldana was just in the middle of lifting her to an orbital biobed when a call came in. ~I don’t want to drop you, could you lean into the ‘shiny thing’ on “mommy’s” chest?~
=/\= Go for Aldana. =/\= heavy breathing could be heard over the comm. channel.
Doctor Aldana did hir best to lean back so hir commbadge could be clear of Luuna’s shoulder, but only heavy breathing and hir muffled voice could be heard.
=/\= Lieutenant assist with working on the deterrent to hindering the Bluegill ability to inhabit one of our people =/\= the Captain began.
Aldana finished setting Luuna on the bed. ~Lay down. Stay.~ S/he turned 90° away from Luuna though keeping one hand on her to keep her still.
=/\=Apologies, captain. I’m presently dealing with a patient, is my presence dire?=/\=
=/\= As soon as you are finished with your patient, get to it =/\= the captain said.
=/\=Understood captain, Aldana out.=/\= The doctor tapped hir commbadge to close the channel. Looking down at Luuna, s/he smiled. ~Perhaps we’d better postpone this for the time being… looks like you’re saved by the comms.~
Luuna perked up, and just gazed at Alpha, panting.
Aldana smiled and wrapped hir arms around Luuna being careful to support her chest and her hind end. ~Up-see Daisey!~ Using a safety liftback straight and the like – Aldana knelt and lowered Luuna to the floor again. Standing again, s/he looked at the pair of thylacinids, “at my side.” That meant that Luuna – along with Sombra of course – was to shadow hir until released. Hopefully, Cahill would understand Luuna’s temporary presence in sickbay and allow her to chillax with the CMO until Aldana had a chance to get her back to their quarters.
Dr. Cahill was in sickbay double-checking all her settings for the security of the Tomcat. She had also set up an area of sickbay for anyone being injured to be beamed back to the Tomcat behind a forcefield. This would prevent any of the Bluegills from gaining access to the ship… if it happened.
Cahill had made every precaution to prevent the Bluegills from accessing the ship that was recommended by Starfleet. Finished, she went to her office and stood by.
Aldana spotted the chief medico and approached her office, knocking on the door. “Got a minute, sir?”
“My door is always open for you Aldana,” responded Dr. Chill. “Come in.”
Aldana and hir two companions entered the office. “Sir, I had brought Luuna down to work on some general-purpose medical maintenance with her, but I’d just received a call from the captain, to ‘assist with working on the deterrent to hindering the bluegill ability to inhabit one of our people’” the junior doctor said doing hir best impression of their captain. “That seems a bit of a more pressing matter, so is there anything you need assistance with at the moment, and if so, do you mind if I tell Luuna to chill-out, in here, out of the way?”
Dr. Cahill replied, “Yes there is, as you know some of the humanoids on the ship are very sensitive to low dose delta radiation. I need you to monitor them and treat them against the effects. Low dose delta radiation is one of the defenses we will be using because it is very effective against the Bluegills.
Commander Sterling and I have worked out an effective dosage to stop them. Along with some other things as well. Also, forcefields will be used while we beam personnel back on the Tomcat along with the shuttles as well.
While on the away mission you are to monitor all personnel for sudden or severe mood changes. This is a sign someone may be infected, also seeming to be stronger than normal too.
A lot of things I am coordinating with engineering to help prevent them from getting on the ship as well. We need to be extremely vigilant for the possible infection of any crew members. If they gain access to a ship and spread to other locations, it will be harder to stop them.
Doctor Aldana felt a little uncomfortable. Hir tail drooped. S/he wasn’t sure if Doctor Cahill hadn’t heard hir question, and if she was ignoring hir request about Luuna, or what. S/he was pretty sure the captain’s instructions were applicable during the immediate present situation. Amiri wasn’t sure why the CMO was going over everything from the mission briefing again. “Sir, I’m aware of what my duties are for the mission to come, but that doesn’t answer my question about Luuna. Is it all right if she stays here while I’m occupied? Also, is there something you need help with right now?”
Dr. Cahiil replied, “It is just fine for her to stay, your service pets are always welcome in sickbay and my office as well. And what I need you to do is to work out a treatment plan for crew members that may have ill effects to the Low Dose Delta Radiation. Some humanoids are more likely to have adverse reactions to it.”
Dr. Cahill replied, “So what is it you need Adlana? I feel there may be something bothering you.”
- Meanwhile back on the Bridge -
Lamia stepped out onto the bridge after returning from maki about some final arrangements and checks. She wanted to be sure of the Ops. side of things was at optimal efficiency especially with her joining the science away team. She motioned for the officer currently manning Ops. to stay put until she knew how soon she’d be leaving the ship.
Serina was busy keeping the Tomcat behind the moon and not scratching the paint. This was the easy part; the hard part was keeping a geosynchronous orbit with the dark side stable. However, her fighter training helped on this one. The ship stays out of sight and prying scanners.
*looks over as the lift doors opened* “hello Lieutenant, ongoing operations all going smoothly across all departments?” The captain asked Arderne.
*Looks towards the Captain* “Yes Sir, I’ve had a full inventory run on the new supplies to make sure we have everything we need. All departments have everything they need, and we’re prepared to provide extra resources to any department that needs them.” Lamia smiled.
“Excellent, thank you” the Captain responded and looked at a notification that appeared on her chairs display screen and then she tapped her Commbadge =/\= Somers to Sterling =/\=
=/\= Sterling here Captain =/\=
=/\= Is your away team ready to go Commander? =/\= Somers asked.
=/\= Yes, Captain I have scheduled a final briefing for 09:00 =/\=
=/\= Excellent, beam down to assigned coordinates when you have your Intel made cover IDs =/\= the Captain responded.
=/\= Aye Captain, Sterling out =/\=
As the comm went silent, the Captain sat back and realized there was a young ensign at the helm, he looked too green and nervous, sighing inwardly she pressed a button on her chair arm, this would open communication to the pilot’s area.
