Crew Evaluations.

The cruise to Starbase Omega would take a week even at warp six. As the first officer, it was hers and the 2nd officer duty along with counsellor Walon to go over and evaluate the crew. Fortunately, only a small fraction of the crew was due at this time. Maia got together with Sheela and Iria to perform those duties. Even in the 24th century the paperwork never seemed to end.

The three had decided to meet in the counsellors, office to start the process. A crew evaluation was a process undertaken aboard a ship or service organisation to critique and reward the skills and abilities of a crew. It determined if a crew member should be promoted and/or transferred to a more suitable job. Most crew evaluations were formalised in a crew evaluation report.

On Federation starships, crew evaluations were the purview of the senior command staff, usually the executive officer. Medical and psychiatric staff members, such as the chief medical officer or ship's counsellor, usually participated as well.

Once every three months, the command staff aboard the Tomcat performed these evaluations.

"Hello Commander Swiftpaws, Lt Walon, thank you for your assistance in this process. We have a number of new crew, shall we start with them"?

"Yooz want the dirt on them to see if theyz loyal to the ship?" Sheela made herself comfortable in the closest available seat. "Whose wez start with?" Pulling a pad that contained some of the tricks of her trade.

"How about Ensign Taggert the Assistant Chief Engineer, She is due for promotion in three months. Does she merit it"? Maia asked.

Sheela typed in commands into her datapad and brought up Ensign Taggert's Service Dossier and looked through it, paying attention to the disciplinary stuff and other information. "Squeee..." She typed more commands and stared at the screen as the commands were processed. This gave the others time to respond while she gathered data she was looking at. Even some of them were highly confidential in matters.

"I have several of the crew evaluations completed from a first level supervisor evaluation, I wanted to go over them with you both before I concur". Lt Walon said.

She passed around two PADDS and they got to work..

Maia concurred with most of Lt Walon's observations. and added some of her own.

"How are you coming, Sheela"? Maia asked.

"Squeee.." Sheela looked up after disconnecting the link she had woven into the databanks. "Shez clean. Iz say go for it. It can always be retracted later."

At that moment Jasmine entered shortly after Sheela had spoken "hope I am not interrupting? But I would like to sit in on these evaluations if possible also I have a couple of suggestions of my own" Jasmine paused.

Sheela looked at Somers expressionless, shrugged.

"I have no objections, Captain" Iria replied lightly, as she offered a spare Padd to the Captain.

"Suggestions Captain"? Maia asked.

Jasmine took the offered Padd and looked at it and grunted in satisfaction "okay I would like to put the names of Lieutenants Jg Jekkar and K'Tel into the list for promotions, also we need to discuss if we should promote K'Muss up to 1st Lieutenant. Have you included Lieutenant Dodd in these evaluations? I have sent Jekkar and K'Tel's jackets to your Padds" Jasmine said.

"Yes Sir, Lieutenant Dodd and Ensign Taggert are both approaching there below the zone promotion cycle. What are you observations about K'T'el and Jekkar"? Maia asked.

"Put themz all on probationary promotion and see how theyz handle it. It can be easily retracted if needed." Sheela spoke thoughtfully.

Somers looked at Sheela and raised an eyebrow, "if we promote them, then unless they screw up enough to warrant a demotion then it will happen, but if we promote them, then it will not be probation. I remember when I promoted you to Lieutenant Commander Sheela, you were unsure, same when I made you Chief Intelligence Officer, you did not want to post. *pause* you see if I assign someone a post, it is because I know that they can do the job, granted I may not like some of your methods on Intel gathering, but you get the job done, we essentially need new blood on this ship, but I will take what you say under advisement" Jasmine finished.

"I think we are done here". Maia said. "Time to get some chow". Maia said.

Looking up all hurt, but shrugged "I will take these evaluations and assess them further" Jasmine said and followed the rest out of the room, she had to admit, that she was hungry.
