- Officers' Lounge -
Dodd was finished with his required duties until tomorrow when he takes over officially as the new Executive Officer on the ship. But now he was going to have a drink in the lounge to celebrate the announcement.
As he sat at the bar and took a swig of his Tellaritian Whiskey and he saw Cahill enter the lounge. So he motioned for her to join him.
"Hey, Doc," Dodd stated as he stood up and continued to motion for her to join him at the bar. "I would like to chat with you if you don't mind."
Cahill entered the room and made a few casual hellos and heard someone ask her to come by. It was Dodd and she went by to the bar and sat down beside him.
"Congratulations on being named XO Mister Dodd. I know the ship is in good hands. I always have time to talk."
The Bartender brought her a glass of brandy from Earth. She liked it to allow her to relax some. Something she did not do often enough.
"Thank you, Doctor," Dodd replied. "I hope this will not make any hard feelings between us. Also, I hope we can work as a team and thus make the command staff even stronger than ever."
Cahill replied, 'what is best for the Tomcat is the bottom line. It is not about anyone person on the ship. The good of the many outweighs the needs of the few.
And there will never be any hard feelings between us."
"I had hoped this would happen one day but I never thought I would still be on the Tomcat when it did," Dodd commented. "I also had hoped that Captain Somers would have been the one honoured to give me the promotion."
"You were the best fit for the Tomcat, Dodd. And never sell yourself short. You will do great and I will continue my duties in Sickbay."
"I am glad you are doing alright with this," Dodd replied and took a drink. "I do hope we can work as a team to keep the staff in order and running smoothly. I know I have a huge duty now and I will need my own assistant which is you. I know I can count on you."
"We all have the same goal here, and that is to get the ship back in one piece and to save all the crew if possible. The best missions in my book are the Tomcat comes home with all her crew." Replied Cahill.
"Roger, that. I like your philosophy. I also feel that part of that goal is to always have the crew working together in sync. I don't want to have any of our crew so bent out of shape that they cause harm to themselves or other crew members." Dodd replied. "I do hope that we can work together to help the crew keep positive morale on the ship even if they may not be in pleasant moods. Does that make sense?"
"It does, cause when we fight amongst ourselves we cannot overcome any adversity that comes between us. And that can get the crew killed or worst the ship destroyed in a battle." Cahill replied.
"Great, I would like to arrange regular meetings between us, if that is alright with you," Dodd replied. "I have a lot to learn and since you have been in the second officer position for some time I hope I can depend upon you for guidance."
Cahill replied, "As you wish XO Dodd. I am always available to you or the CO whoever it is at the time to assist as needed. I also always have a lot to learn every day is a learning experience on a Starfleet ship no matter who you are."
"Great, I hope you know I am here to support you and the crew in your roles on the ship just as you are here to support the ship and crew as well. I hope to be the best I can be and if I falter, I know I have you to help me back up." Dodd replied. "I do also believe you have to learn something every day no matter how simple to have lived that day. I do hope to have One Crew united as we move forward from here on out Cahill replied," I agree."
