Mazal had been thinking of the chat she had with Lieutenant Winchester, the Chief of Security and his idea of getting together with Jackson and talking about competition or some sort of training with them together? She tapped her combadge deciding to get with Jackson before Winchester was contacted.
=/\=Jackson, I know it is shore leave right now but I've got something I need to talk to you about, where can I meet you? It's actually a possible joint training with Security and Marines... I can give you more details when we meet up.=/\=
=/\=I'm in my office, Falk. Needed to review a requisition order. Do you want to meet me here or somewhere else? Only take me another 10 or so minutes. =/\=
=/\=I'm on my way will be there very soon.=/\= Mazal ended communication.
Minutes later, Mazal stepped in through the door of Captain Jackson's office, her eyes paused on the basket that was still there where she had left it days ago. "Oh I forgot that was there." laughing, "However, I met the chief of security a few days ago and he had wondered about doing a competition between security and marines as a so-called getting to know you meeting. Maybe a way to find out just where everyone's progress was at. I told him he'd have to speak with you, about that." Mazal stated, "So, what do you think? And I want to be included in the meeting between you and Winchester about security and the marines."
Patrick smiled at her as she walked in. She was a breath of fresh air he needed and looked forward to seeing her in combat readiness on the holodeck. He was leaning back in his chair with a pair of cargo shorts and a t-shirt, not nearly as tight as the other one he wore when they first met. Something that reasonably fit. It was left so duty uniform was not required at the moment, so he took advantage of it.
"Sounds interesting. Have a chair." He motioned. "What kind of shenanigans are you thinking of?"
Mazal took a seat, and grinned, "I do not have any planned as of yet, but, I am thinking we need to get him in here and we have a chat or, meet somewhere else. What do you think? A neutral ground somewhere." she then took a good look at what he was wearing. "Looking good there, Patrick. " then looked at what she was wearing a pair of black workout pants semi form-fitting, red tee-shirt and a pair of joggers on her feet.
"Glad I didn't come in my uniform, I would have been feeling way out of place." Mazal laughing. Then she had an idea. "Maybe the Aurora Lounge? We can meet him there and talk about what he wants to do." She paused and then remarked. "Oh warning, he did tell me he has some trouble with marines so he may have a slight attitude. He did say he had some issues. Just be warned."
"Issues?" He smirked. "Well, we can see what we can do. I would probably get issues with Marines too if I were in his shoes. After all, security is on the ship. Marines get to feel the soil on their feet, breath fresh air, and play with a lot of fun ordinance and toys that security doesn't get to." He sighed. "Apparently some flaunt that around too much." Adding a shrug he continued. "All before my time. A mix of Marines and Security during an exercise would be a good idea."
Setting the padd down he leaned back into his chair more looking at her. "Did he mention why he has issues with us? Not sure I met the man, and if I did, was only in passing."
"I didn't pursue the matter, he just said he and marines do not mix." Mazal shrugging. I was making certain to not step into anything and we getting into a bit of a fight. He also told me something that really irked me, but. I kept my cool. I won't go into the details. He may tell you the details himself. Or not. However, a meet at the Aurora Lounge and discuss things there?"
Patrick nodded. "Sounds good. I could go for a bite anyway." He smiled at her. "Irked you huh? Must be a good story." He said standing up. "Good job keeping your cool though. We don't have to like them, but we do have to work with them."
"That's what I told him when we chatted. Okay, Aurora Lounge and some grub, plus a chat. I'll let you send him a call, after all, you're the head honcho." giving a teasing smile.
He returned her smile. "I was planning on delegating that to you, but you beat me to it. Shall we?" He asked standing up and indicating the door.
Mazal laughed, "Well I figured that you needed to pull your weight sometime." giving him a teasing wink. "I would have but I felt that since both of you are head of your sections.." she stopped so he could call Winchester.
=/\= Jackson to Winchester, if you are free, would you be able to meet with Lieutenant Falk and me to go over the joint training idea you had? We would like to meet at the Aurora Lounge since we are still on leave. =/\=
=Winchester's Quarters=
=/\= Yeah I'm free Captain, I will meet you there Winchester Out=/\= as he closed the channel and rose from his seat and headed towards the exit; So, Falk had mentioned the idea to Jackson and was up for the idea and now he had to help his sister evaluate her fighter crews as well this might benefit all three departments getting them fit and in a routine to boot.
=Marine Office=
When the communications were closed up, Mazal finished what she was saying to Patrick, I figured that it would be better for you to do so." she chuckled. "Sure I guess I threw you under the bus?"
He walked over to her next to the door. "At least you weren't driving it." He joked and gave her a light shoulder bump in jest. "Come on, there's a burger on that menu I have been wanting to try."
Mazal laughed, clapping a hand on his shoulder, "Well that is a good thing isn't it?"
- Aurora Lounge -
The Marines wandered in and grabbed a seat. Patrick flagged the waitress over, already knowing what he was having and placed his order. "Could I get the four by four with fries-please and an Ale please?"
"I'll second that order myself." Mazal feeling pretty hungry." giving a grin towards Patrick, "And now we wait for both the food and the Security Chief."
Patrick looked at her impressed and nodded with a smile. "Didn't know you had it in you Mazal. A pound of beef, four thick slices of cheese, bacon, all the fixings and fries." He held up his water in salute.
Mazal just laughed, "I'm hungry that's all and working out does give a girl an appetite. I'm not afraid of eating."
"Hey, Falk, Captain, and congrats by the way on your promotion Jackson," as he slipped into the booth; as he knew that this was a natural setting for their meeting. but for ship stuff would be better done on the ship. "So, my idea is a load of marines practice boarding skills with security"
The marine thought a moment. "That could work. We do capture the ship game or two? Have a time frame or some parameters that if this objective is secured the ship is captured and if defended for however long the attackers fail?"
"The main reason I suggested it is to keep both our departments on their toes," replied Paul as he knew that they needed the practice; he thought to himself oO I do hope they go for this idea Oo as he looked back at Jackson; he continued " and also we can reverse it and use the drill for evaluations of our departments regularly," as he wanted his security officers to be better than they were at the moment.
Falk gazed at Winchester for a moment or two and then took a drink of her water, as she mulled over his suggestions. It will have to be Jackson's final say on this but it seemed doable.
The Captain was quite a moment and glanced over to his XO. She was staying out of it and with what she told him earlier, that was probably a good thing. A big burger would help her mood, he was pretty sure. He glanced back to the security chief. "Ok, we're in. I've got almost 400 Marines ready to go. It would be good for all departments involved to have this exercise. Do you have any rules of engagement already planned out?" He asked and then thanked the server who brought their meal and beer.
"I was thinking more of like capture the flag and the Colonel being the flag," replied Paul looking back at both of the Marines as he knew that having someone to defend for and a target to reach would be a good idea; "And I think it would be better if we both made the suggestion to her and not just me," he continued as he still wanted to get a beer and a bite to eat.
"Just you and Jackson? I think I had better be there when you present this idea to her, Winchester. And definitely on a full stomach." Mazal stated matter-of-factly, giving Winchester a rather pointed look.
Patrick didn't need to look at Mazal to see her look. He could see enough out of his peripheral vision. While he had not had a lot of experience with the ladies, he knew "the look" and enough to stay clear of it. He had no idea what Winchester did to get the look, but best to mediate for the moment. "If the Colonel is willing, so am I. If not, we can do standard control of the ship simulation. Either way, we can split the Marines up, one group working with security and repelling, the other boarding. We can switch after a victory so both groups of marines have a chance to work with security. Sound fair?"
"Then we better go see her then," replied Paul knowing that it was better to get it sorted so they could start making preparations for the ground rules and who was on what side; he asked, " Shall we go after the meal?"
Patrick took a long drink of his ale and set the beer down before working his hands to grip the colossal burger. "After works, however, I would com or message the Colonel ahead of time to make sure she is available. I know how Marines like their liberty time." He took a bite of the burger and a smile crossed his face. He continued after he finished chewing. "When it's convenient for the Colonel, it will be convenient for me. I'm interested if she'll play the flag or not."
Mazal went to take a bite of her burger then stopped, "Seriously, I don't see the Colonel being the flag. It wouldn't be her style at all." She picked up her ale and just drank it in one fell swoop, and placed the glass on the table barely keeping herself from slamming it down. Mazal motioned for the server to come to the table. "Can I get this to go please?"
The server nodded, and then came back fairly quickly with the to-go box. Mazal quickly put her food in the container and closed it up. "I'll see you, gents, around I've got something I need to do." casting one more pointed look at Winchester, with a slight shake of her head, a slight frown and a stormy look in her eyes.
Mazal was up out of her chair, the seat being pushed under the table. She grabbed up her food and was gone within a few seconds, and away from the table. She barely avoided a collision with a patron that was coming, twisting gracefully out of the way, him feeling only the brushing of her hair barely caressing his cheek. And she was gone.
"What the hell has got into her?" asked Paul surprised at Falk's sharp and sudden exit, as he thought to himself oO Is it me or is it something else? Oo as he picked up his drink and took a sip of it as he said to Jackson, "what is it with me and female Marines?" as he pondered the question.
The remaining Marine did not break stride on his burger. He was in the burger zone and knew he would get a full report from her later. Right now, he was enjoying the cheesy goodness. "Women are above my pay grade." He said a mouthful of burger. He took a drink of beer and swallowed. "You pluralized Marine. You got on more than one female Marines bad side?" Asking and then digging back into the burger.
"I don't know why I keep upsetting the female Marines," replied Paul taking a sip of his drink; Paul knew that this was becoming a habit upsetting a female marine, He continued," I just don't know why or how I do it?" as he remembered how he had annoyed the Colonel. he finished "at least I did not call her out on her honour,"
Patrick began working on some of the fries. "Calling out any Marine on their honour is a sure-fire way to get them upset at you regardless of their gender. Who do I need to keep you away from? If there is a conflict with the Marines, I need to know about it since it is my department." He said as a matter of fact and non-judgmental. On the ship, he was department head and if there was a conflict between departments, he needed to regulate that. He took a drink of beer to wash his fries down.
"Do you truly want to know why I don't like Marines?" Paul stated "with the few exceptions to the rule that is, "as he took a sip of his drink, he continued looking back at Jackson. he finished "It has to do with My sister Paula," as he held the glass to his lips and took a swig of the cold liquid.
The marine looked at him expectantly. "If we plan to work together I need to know any problems we might have. If you have something against the Marines or particular Marines, I should know."
"It all started at the academy when the Marine Cadets would mix in with us fleeters," replied Paul as he took a sip of his drink, he continued "The marines started talking about my sister Paula and tormenting me as she was sleeping with a female Marine," he finished "and I was protecting and got into a few fights with them over it. as he started to remember the beatings that he took because of it, he finished "and then she came out on Graduation day of all days and I never spoke to her for five years."
He had the feeling he was not getting the entirety of the story. The facts of the story were irrelevant at this point, Jackson knew that Winchester had created his viewpoint by experience based on a few and that was what he was working with. "Do you have a problem with any Marines on this ship?"
" I don't have any hard feelings against any Marines on the Tomcat," replied Paul, looking back at Jackson as he knew that he had to work with them, " all I want to do is try and work with Marines and work on the trust between us." taking a sip of his drink. he finished "If you will let me"
Patrick sat for a moment then looked over at the empty chair Falk was sitting at. He looked back at Winchester. "Clearly in your previous conversation with my XO, you said something that struck a nerve with her. She is pretty easygoing so it bust be a deep nerve. You told me you don't like Marines yet don't have a problem with any of mine on this ship. Right now as I see it, the only one that can let you rebuild that trust is yourself." The marine downed the last of his beer.
"We're Marines on this ship, not boots that you had your troubles with. If a Marine gives you trouble you inform me and I'll take care of it, but these are professionals and I run a tight ship in that regard. I don't have any reason not to trust you yet, so the only one that can rebuild that trust is yourself." He said and stood up. "I'm going to check on my XO and get that straightened out. I trust you right now as I have no reason not to. Only you can change that, but if you do, and you break that trust..." he trailed off. "Enjoy the rest of your leave. See you around.' He said and stopped the waiter from walking by. "His next round is on me." Pointing to the Chief of Security. "See you around Winchester."
"Thanks, Jackson for the drink," called Paul as he thought to himself oO Well, not all Marines are bad! Oo as Paul looked back at the waitress and said "Another Larger please," as she gave a nod of her head and left Paul alone to ponder his next move; as Paul sat there alone Suddenly his Sister appeared at his elbow and said, "So, Brother what's the news?"
