Orientation Posts
Location: Security Office SB51

After returning to her office Samantha noticed that her desk was cleaner than she left it, obviously, the Colonel had been here and as she was a marine she was neat when on duty, she would assume, she heard her computer beeping and pulled up the alert "A new ACMO huh, well I hope this one is a keeper, but time will tell" Sam said to herself as she exited the office and headed to arrival and Departures. IT was a short walk and a turbolift ride away, but it was like 100 floors or more up, but the lifts were well maintained and as Sam stepped out onto the Arrival/Departures level she headed towards those arriving off transports, she looked around for an officer in a Teal uniform there were many so she pulled her duty padd out of her pouch and looked at the image and looked up and spotted her brightly coloured hair oO that is different Oo she thought to herself and walked forward until she stopped in front of the Lieutenant.
"Lieutenant Jg Jane Sinclair? I am Lieutenant Commander Samantha Smithson Security Chief here and I will be carrying out your orientation, hello and welcome have you any current questions before we head to security?" Sam asked with a pleasant friendly smile.
Jane had been working her way through the Arrivals/Departures concourse, looking for the way to the gangways. She had been given directions but she had not anticipated this many people, nor this many doors.
She had been on only one Stardock-class station before, the one orbiting Earth. But that was always as part of a group, with a leader showing them the way. Never had she ever been alone in such a thick crowd of people. The farmgirl in her wanted little more than to be free of quite this many people, whether that meant a much larger space or a small room to herself.
She was startled to hear her name and turned to face the station’s security chief. “Thank you, Commander. I didn’t realize I would get such high-level attention for my orientation. Please, lead the way.” She smiled and laughed at herself. “Anything to get out of the crowd, Commander.”
*Smithson smiled back* "no worries Lieutenant, I handle all the new arrivals for the Tomcat, I did have a helper, but she got a field commission and was assigned as Marine Executive Officer on the USS Leto, so now for the moment there is only myself" Smithson sighed "okay let's get to my office "the Orientation is simply this you ask questions, I answer if I can and log you into the system, give you a bit of information etcetera and a separate set of security codes and ID card and a one-time emergency code and send you on your way to meet your Department Head, feel free to ask some questions as we make our way," Smithson said as she led the way to the nearest lift and stepped in with the Lieutenant close behind "Security Level," she said when the doors had closed, now as the lift took them to their destination she waited for any questions.
The doctor followed closely behind, listening and making sure she didn’t get separated from the security chief. As they entered the security zone, she was able to breathe a little more easily. “What’s the one-time emergency code?” she asked. “I didn’t have anything like that in my last assignment.”
"Well, the Tomcat works in a remote area of Federation space where such security is needed, as the Tomcat is currently the Flagship of Taskforce Eleven she has sector codes and placed assets for the sector. The One-time code is as is advertised, I will explain more when in Security" she said as they stepped out onto the Security level and headed towards her office, as they walked she looked back "you should know that all assignments are not the same, but all this is down to security requirements" Smithson said kindly as they turned the corner and activity picked up.
Jane followed Sam through the security area. There were lots of people but it was not nearly as chaotic as the arrivals/departures area. It did not take long for Jane to spot the door identifying the chief of security’s office.
As they entered Security Sam headed straight for her office and went around behind her desk and faced the entering Lieutenant "please have a seat Lieutenant Sinclair" she said indicating the seat in front of the desk as she sat down and pulled up the Lieutenant's file and acknowledged the transfer. This set in motion the auto printing of the ID Card and a separate set of Personal and Departmental security codes, as she was waiting "so Lieutenant have you served on an Akira Class before?" Smithson asked.
“Never,” Jane admitted as she took the offered seat. “The only other ship I served on was the Minerva, Aegian-class. About half as many crew.”
*Smiling at the Lieutenant* "well you will find that serving on an Akira class will be slightly different, for starters the ship has three fighter squadrons of Gryphon fighters twelve in number and 467 Rifle Regiment troops, a squadron of those fighters are a Klingon squadron so there may be a difference. Currently, the acting commanding officer is Lieutenant Colonel Alexandria Somers who is currently covering for Fleet Captain Jasmine Somers the actual commander, but as she is also the TFCO for this sector of space she is currently out doing the rounds. Any questions so far there Lieutenant?" Smithson asked as she tapped some info into the computer, the first item out of the device was the ID card Sam took it out of the dispenser and placed it on the desk, then did the same with some security and departmental codes and also placed it on the desk, the final item would a take a bit longer. Now she waited to see if the Lieutenant had any questions.
“A silly one to start,” Jane said, letting it all sink in. “Any relation between Fleet Captain Somers and Lieutenant Colonel Somers? But then, I wanted to ask if the Klingon squadron has other support aboard the ship. I’m wondering specifically if there are medical personnel attached to their unit directly. If not, I’ll want to brush up on Klingon physiology.”
Sam looks at the Lieutenant and smiles "yes, they are cousins, when the Captain returns the Colonel will be returning to earth to finish her Academy training, as for the Klingon Medical situation the ship and medical is equipped to deal with them, there is a Klingon doctor on the ship just in case the Medical Staff need some information to save a Klingon life. These Klingon's have learned to contain themselves when fighting, they do not throw their lives away needlessly, it was one of the provisions the Fleet Captain got out of them, they do things the Starfleet way. But they are allowed to live like Klingon's in their section of the ship, but brushing up on such things would not go amiss" Smithson said.
Then she picked up the ID card and held it out to the Lieutenant "this is your ID card for the ship only, it is to be worn at all times on duty or to be on your person if the task you are doing negates wearing it out in the open. BUT it is only for the ship if you are assigned to an away team the ID stays on the ship" Smithson said.
“Understood,” Jane said, taking the ID card. She put it in her uniform pocket, out of sight as she wasn’t yet aboard the ship. “Does the card do anything aside from identifying me as a member of the crew? Like open doors or grant or deny certain privileges?”
"In a sense of the word, that along with the separate set of codes you will get essentially work with each other, this is why the ID card is to be worn if able on the ship and not taken with you when you go on an away team, but generally the computer will work even if the ID card is left in your quarters. Speaking of which the quarters on the Akira class are spartan compared to Nebula or Sovereign and Galaxy classes, your rank and position offers you a modest single quarter on the ship, but I do advise you secure yourself some Starbase-side quarters to put your larger stuff in as your ship quarters will not be able to hold as much" Smithson said.
*Pause*
Picking up a Data chip and holding it out to her "on this Iso Chip is the codes for your rank and position and unique to the Tomcat, your standard-issue codes Starfleet gave you will work anywhere you are allowed on the Station, any questions before we wind down here?" Smithson asked still holding the Iso chip out to the Lieutenant as a red strip of printed paper started to print out oO I have seriously have to find a way to streamline this out Oo she thought to herself.
“Where do I go to get station-side quarters?” Jane asked.
"You need to seek out the Station quartermaster, just go to the nearest console and ask for the location," Smithson said still holding the Iso chip to the Lieutenant while her other hand grabbed the strip of paper, "Could you please take this iso chip off me, Lieutenant?" Smithson asked.
The doctor took the chip and put it in her bag.
When she had done so Smithson handed her the strip of Red Paper "now this is currently a thing, how long it will last I have no idea, this strip of Paper has a long alphanumeric code, it is onetime use only. Should the Tomcat be taken over and you are the only one left conscious you are to use this one-time use code to lock out the ship's computers and render the ship a floating lump of duranium until a retrieval team can get to it and restart its systems. It is a blunt instrument I know and the last report but Fleet Captain Somers wants all crew to have a unique code for them. You must memorize it then destroy the paper" Smithson said holding out the strip of paper to the Lieutenant "not much more to go now, are there any final questions before I confirm your arrival and send you on your way?" She asked.
“No further questions, Commander,” Jane answered. It was all very clear if a bit intimidating. She took the paper and began to read it. It was long, but it wouldn’t take her long to memorize it. “I’ll find quarters here and then report to the ship.”
"Good, your Department Head is Lieutenant Commander Cahill, when you are settled in with the Starbase quarters and Ship quarters, you are to report to her and check-in, also getting your arrival medical out of the way would not go amiss. I know some of those items I gave you seem antiquated, but considering the Tomcats AoO it is needed, so after you have settled in with Starbase quarters, your time is your own until the next mission start, but you will need to report into Commander Cahill" Smithson said.
“Understood, Commander,” Jane said with a nod. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll get started.”
*Shaking her head* "nothing further Lieutenant, you know who you have to see and what you have to do, dismissed" Smithson said and watched the new officer exit her office, as soon as she had left her desktop made a sound indicating that a new crewmember for the Tomcat had arrived.
Dismissed, Jane stood, her iso chip and slip of paper secure, and left the security office. She had much to do. Starbase quarters. Starship quarters. Reporting to Dr Cahill. Memorizing and destroying her emergency code. But it was the start of a new adventure, and she was eager for it to get underway.
