As the last of the crew cleared out leaving only the Colonel and both Winchester and Falk in the room, Colonel Somers paces back and forth "what ye to do, what ye to do!" She said to herself, before pausing and facing the pair who were still sitting in their seats.
"Okay, Lieutenant Falk, why did you make such a comment towards Lieutenant Winchester? I may not be his biggest fan, but he did nothing or said nothing that was hostile *looks at Winchester with a raised eyebrow* although the day is early and something can still happen," she said looking back at Falk.
Mazal rubbed her hands upon her pant legs, feeling her palms wet with sweat.
All of Mazal's frustrations poured out of her in one fell swoop. "Well, Colonel Sommers. I had met Winchester during shore leave and for some reason he- he told me something that made me rather angry with him." Falk turned her chair to face Winchester. "He told me about what he did to you" the last part almost came out almost like a growl.
"Questioning your honour? Saying you got your position due to your cousin? Him disobeying a direct order? Yes, he told me all that and the circumstances of which he had done." she took a breath, barely making sure to keep her cool.
"I managed to not deck him, I kept my cool. We had a congenial conversation, somewhat. Then when we left the bar, we continued to talk. His sister Paula came to speak with him, I sensed there was some sort of issue that they had to take care of, so I left them to talk."
Mazal had to continue before Winchester could say anything. "Then, later on, we met Jackson, Winchester and myself. Winchester had come up with a plan of security and the marines going into a competitive exercise which would have us working to get everyone up to par. that wasn't a bad idea." she looked to Winchester then back to Somers and continued. "However he came up with the idea of you being the flag that would be stolen!"
Mazal crossed her arms over her chest. "Now about my statement when he came into the briefing. His sister Paula, when I met her briefly, seemed like a nice woman. With how he made his statement. "I just had to deal with Paula sounded like he was making her out to be a problem child". Mazal huffed out. "Sorry Colonel, that just added to my feeling of irritation with him! You don't treat family like that, and it seemed like he is embarrassed by her." Mazal finished and was trying not to glower at Winchester.
Alex looked at Falk and to Winchester then back and forth a few times in disbelief, before finally settling on Winchester "YOU DID WHAT!" She said loudly then cleared her throat more calmly "dammit Lieutenant what made you open up like that to a brand new officer to the Tomcat? That is another kind of stupidity, that fact that you opened up is good, but why did you have to mention that, it was stupid" Somers said shaking her head.
She paused as she ground her teeth before she continued.
Looking at Falk "you did very well Lieutenant in remaining cordial, kudos to you" she paused then looked somewhat angry at Winchester "when the bloody hell were you going to let me know that you wanted me to be the Flag in this Capture the Flag exercise Lieutenant Winchester, huh?" She asked pausing so that it allowed Winchester to respond to both her questions.
"First off Colonel, she asked and I was being honest, second on the Capture the flag Jackson and I were going to approach you later," replied Paul looking at the senior Marine, he continued "and do you know why I don't trust Marines Colonel because I got my hide handed to me when protecting the Honor of my sister when she was dating a female Marine," as he looked back at her. he finished "it was not until Graduation day that they told me the truth that the pair of them had been sleeping together for the last four years during our Academy years" he kept his gaze upon the Colonel and finished " and I did not take it well and didn't want to see them both for five years,"
Many thoughts went through Mazal's mind, though she managed not to express them verbally. Good thing he couldn't read her thoughts, Mazal monologued internally. oO What the heck? He got really upset that she was dating a marine? A female? And he got in a fight with whom? Marines? Other security? This man is rather confusing. He is making his sister out like she is an incompetent fool when she didn't seem like that at all. Oo
Mazal kept a placid face while she continued fuming in her mind. oO If I were his sister I would have punched his lights out. Protecting his sister's honour, hah! Is the Victorian age? Well, that was nice of him I guess, but seriously, his sister didn't seem incompetent. If he truly cared about Paula why doesn't he quit being so judgmental? It's not his call to choose whom she falls in love with. Sure glad he's not my brother. Oo
Mazal clung tightly onto her ire. She wasn't going to fume at him. Her eyes might have a slight bit of a spark to them but, she kept quiet. There was also a slight tenseness manifesting in her body language.
*Looks incredulously at Winchester* "First off Lieutenant Winchester, while being honourable is a good thing, your actions towards your Sister were wrong, I have never met her, your Sister, but I figure that she is quite capable. As for who she was sleeping with, that was none of your business Lieutenant, she is a grown woman and makes her own choices, so your dislike of Marines is unfounded and your attitude very victorian. Being upset at who your sister was sleeping with is understandable but not really any of your business, so this makes your dislike of Marines illogical and unfounded you need to learn to work closely with the Rifles on the ship, if you do not I will detach you to the Rifles and place Lt Ze in temporary Command of Security for the duration" Somers said
"You want me to What!" exclaimed Paul looking at Colonel Somers, he continued "You mean that you are transferring me to the Marines?" as this horrified him, he continued " I have had enough of being moved around on this ship," he looked at her, "First I was CAG which I loved til my crash and moved to intel," he stated as his temper was starting to rise again and managed to hold it in "And without giving me time to get to know the job I get moved to Security and now you want me to go Green?"
Apparently, Winchester had misheard Colonel Somers and was getting all riled up about nothing at the moment. Mazal placed two fingers to her mouth and gave a piercing whistle to give Winchester pause.
"That is enough Lieutenant Winchester!" Mazal's voice rang out with a great amount of authority. "You weren't listening to the Colonel. She said and I quote. 'your dislike of Marines is illogical and unfounded you need to learn to work closely with the Rifles on the ship.
She also said this, if you do not I will detach you to the Rifles and place Lt Ze in temporary Command of Security for the duration"
"That would be temporary and she didn't put that in effect. What the Colonel said would be a consequence you will be facing if you do not try to put your hatred for Marines into the closet where it needs to be and learn to work with us. I would think Colonel Somers would be saying the same thing to me as in having me be transferred to security on a temporary basis to get to know the security team. IF you are going to be someone whom people will want to serve with you under your command, you need to put your temper in check, and LISTEN!" Mazal stated with a great amount of feeling, looking Winchester straight in the eyes.
"And also put aside your problems with people. Like your sister and well, us marines. I wouldn't want to serve in the same department as you, as a department head and due to your lack of respect for others. And you do not have a lot of respect for others, in any sort of fashion. You need to think before you open up your mouth, Sir! If you don't there is a good chance you may lose your position." Mazal was done with her passionate speech.
Mazal may have been stepping way out of line due to him being of a higher rank than she but Mazal just couldn't stand hearing him getting all defensive and start going after the Colonel as he had done previously. The problem with him was, that Winchester was his own worse enemy.
"For your information Falk, Paula and I do get along now and I have been talking to Lisa," replied Paul looking back at her" and I have gotten over it and Paula and I have discussed it even," as he remembered the day that they had patched things up. he finished " I love my family every member of it and that includes Lisa"
*Alex had a small smile as Falk tore Winchester a new one, she was not going to jump in there, but the interaction had gone far enough as she now removed her smile* "Lieutenant Winchester you have just ignored the one-word Lieutenant Falk used 'Respect' *she emphasized* you just respected the Lieutenant by simply using her surname and not rank, you could have used her first name, but no you said Falk, no Lieutenant Falk or Mazal, just Falk. That was disrespectful, so please excuse me if I do not take you at what you say, everything that has transpired is an indication that you have not truly taken the stance that you claim to have, now before I dismiss you both, I expect you both to work together and show each other respect, I will not make you mingle off duty, I cannot, but I can assure that this ship and the upcoming mission runs smoothly. Also, Fleet Captain Somers will be briefed on all that has happened during her absence, do I make myself absolutely crystal clear?" She asked looking at both of them.
"Colonel, I would like it put on record that I am willing to work with the Marines, but with the case of my Sister and I should be no interest of Lieutenant Falk or anyone else," he stated looking back at Somers he continued "But as for my attitude towards my Sister at the time was different due being told one thing about a family member," as he looked down at the floor and then back up "and then find out it was all true, I ask you, Colonel, How would that make you feel?"
Mazal gritted her teeth at Winchester's comments, then took a calming breath. And turned her attention towards Colonel Somers. "You are crystal clear Colonel. May I be excused, please?" the last part she gave a rather pleading expression towards Somers.
Mazal could feel her ire start to rise up again. She didn't want to appear to be rude and just run, but at this moment she really felt it would be the better part for herself and for Winchester. And the Colonel.
*Grinding her teeth* oO good god, this guy lives with both feet in his mouth! Oo she thought to herself and looked up at the reader and gives a 'Really, this guy!' look and then she returned her attention back at Winchester "Lieutenant, I do not care what happened in the past, it happened and it cannot be changed as for your willingness to work with the Rifles is good news to hear, especially as you are Security Chief, any of this old-time stuff you have going on in your head kindly control it and in future do not go spilling your guts about the errors you made like you did with Lieutenant Falk" she paused looked at Falk "Lieutenant, I know you are a second Lieutenant, but that is equal to an Ensign, while nothing more will come of this, remember Mr Winchester technically outranks you, so careful what you say to him, trust me I know you would love to fire quantum at him so would I but we cannot not" she paused and looked at them both.
"So now all this is sorted out, are there any more questions, not comments or further discussion, just questions, are there any before I dismiss you pair so you can get ready for the mission?" Somers asked.
"Thank you, Colonel, and I do understand that he does outrank me, hence my respectful Sir's. Now that this is settled, I will be doing my best to not fire at him." Mazal gave Somers a bright smile.
"Thank you, Lieutenant," Somers said with a smile and then looked at Winchester expectantly, the look was one that said she would not take any more explanations from him.
Paul thought to himself oO What is it with Marines that cause me problems? Oo as he looked back at the Colonel "I understand everything Colonel and I am sorry for any issues caused by this," as he knew that He and Lieutenant Falk were going to work together and maybe he would make it up to her somehow.
Looking at Winchester, "accepted, now both of you get your rears out of here and to your duties" Somers said, both nodded and quickly left the briefing room, she looked at their departing backs "the CoS is going to be the death of me!" she mused with a half-smile and stood up and tugged her tunic down and like the rest of the crew she left the briefing room and headed straight to the bridge.
