Mission:
S03 Ep 04 Captive State Part 1 (Main)
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: One day prior to arrival at Planet 569701 D
[ON]
- Captain's Ready Room -
Dodd was reluctant to sit at desk, but he was acting captain and that would warrant him to right to sit there. He paced the room looking at a PADD reviewing the marine crew roster. He was putting together the team to go to the surface of Planet 569701-D and he wanted ten people which was two more than he was advised but he wanted to be able to have the team be as prepared as possible for all variables that may come at them.
As he paced he wanted to talk to Captain Jackson and his XO LT Falk. He also wanted to have Cahill, his acting XO, in on the conversation since she would be on the team as well.
=/\= Cahill, could you come to the Captain's Ready Room, please. =/\= Dodd called for Doctor Cahill.
=/\= On my way Commander=/\=
When the good doctor arrived in the ready room, Dodd offered her some Alderian sparkling water. Then he took a seat at the desk.
"Great you, are my choice to be one of the leaders on the away team. You will be with Captain Jackson and it will be up to the two of you once on the surface to get the mission accomplished." Dodd stated. "I want to talk to Jackson who will be on the away team but also with Falk his xo to see what they are thinking of for the other rifles on the team. So would you please join me in this conversation?" Dodd asked of the good doctor.
"Sounds like a good plan Commander Dodd. The last research I saw shows the use of weapons similar to our 20th Century weapons. We can confirm this when we arrive. These are weapons that shoot what are called bullets when gunpowder is exploded in a controlled way to send the bullet firing." Cahill advised.
"Nice to know, I had not read that far yet, as I am still amazed at the facts of the merging of the cultures that make up this planet's civilization," Dodd replied. "I feel like I am witnessing a live-action show from Earth's late 20th century called 'Stargate' where the ancient cultures worshipped gods who were actually aliens but these gods were a mix of ancient earth religions."
Cahill replied," Also we need to try to avoid any contact if we make contact with them. We could violate the Prime Directive. Of not interfering with their development. We do not want a repeat of what happened when the Klingons interfered once and caused a lot of chaos on a planet like this one time."
"Yes, we don't want to contaminate their development. But we need to find the observation team or find out what happened to them and retrieve all the gear that is salvageable to avoid it falling into the wrong hands." Dodd replied. "I better see if we can get Captain Jackson and his XO involved in this conversation and make a plan for the surface away team."
Chill replied," I agree, but still let's not get too fast and mess up. We need to move slowly and calculate all court moves. It may be like a team sent to observe a planet as it developed. They became close to them and started interacting with them while watching them develop. I was found out by Captain Kirk and his crew on the Enterprise.
But I do agree that Jackson and Falk should be here for this meeting."
=/\= Captain Jackson, Lieutenant Falk, Please report to the Ready Room. =/\= Dodd signalled to have the two marines join him and Cahill to discuss the plan for the away team further.
=/\= Acknowledged =/\= the Captain replied and made his way to the bridge.
=/\= Acknowledged=/\= Mazal replied as well, moving quickly to get to the bridge.
Standing on the bridge, Captain Jackson waited for his XO. He figured they should arrive together. He knew he would not need to wait long. He smiled as she arrived. "Are you ready XO?"
Mazal gave a nod, "Ready as I'll ever be, Captain Jackson." flashing a smile, towards him, and stepping into the Ready room just slightly after he did. She took notice of Commander Dodd and also Commander Cahill, feeling herself go into a stance of attention, being in the same room of superior officers.
"Greetings Commander Dodd and Commander Cahill" Mazal stated.
"Salutations, to the two you as well," Dodd stated upon the entrance of the Marines into the ready room. "I wanted to have the four of us talk a bit before we actually send an away team to the surface."
Dodd then motioned to everyone to take a seat. Once all of them sat, he remained standing behind the desk. "I am increasing the away team numbers to a total of ten members. Eight is was recommended but I feel ten would allow more feasibility in getting our mission accomplished. Can I get anyone a beverage before I bore you more?"
Cahill smiled, "I am good. I had a light snack while I was on Comm. So I don't need anything.v Perhaps we divide to not draw attention to ourselves by 2 teams of 5 and we can explore more area on the planet. Then if one team is attacked. The other can come to their aid."
The Marine Captain looked nodded slowly. "Two teams would draw a little less attention, but with all due respect ma'am, if we get attacked, the second team would be hard-pressed to return and engage without risking a breach of the Prime Directive." He said thoughtfully. "They might ask too many questions on how a group of five people knew an attack was happening without large communication devices. Each team should probably be ready to face anything there alone, just in case."
"We could divide it even further as to two teams of three and the third one is a team of four. It depends on how many marines will be going down." Mazal remarked. "And I'll have some ginger tea with lemon and some honey if you would please, Commander Dodd. "
She then turned towards Cahill and Jackson "If we were to utilize smaller teams it would be easier to have some backup come to the aid. Wouldn't draw as much attention." she directed her next part towards Jackson. " I do agree that the teams may have to deal with a situation on their own, however, if smaller teams are put together wouldn't draw too much attention. Just need to figure out which people will be together. " she then looked at Dodd,
"With myself, Commander Cahill and Captain Jackson we'd be able to help cover this, Marine wise. Security-wise, we will have Lieutenant Winchester. If you'd like, I could be on the same team as Lieutenant Winchester, plus another person. This depends on if you want to divide us into the three teams I suggested. Then assign the rest of the away team."
"I would like each science representative to be with a Marine or Security representative and then the others are okay. So I know Lieutenant Lee is well versed on her weaponry and can handle herself in a fisticuff but I would like her with a marine sidekick at all times as she will be really looking into the culture and such and could get sidetracked on her attention to details. I would say that between the three of you, you can divide the team well and work the data we collect to decide where to search on the surface. We are to look for any survivors of the observation team and retrieve them as well as to retrieve any equipment and such. We need to make it as if we were never here when the time comes to leave the planet. But the study of the culture and society needs to happen as well. Details of how they have evolved into the society they are today is part of the orders that Lieutenant Lee being focused on so the best marine sidekick for her is your call, Captain Jackson. Doctor Cahill, I trust you will want to lead the main focus on survivors. and then Lieutenant Falk can work on the mission details to get our tech off the planet if any of it is in a state to contaminate the planet's evolution." Dodd stated.
Mazal gave a nod in agreement. "Sounds like a very good plan, Commander." Then looked from Cahill, Jackson then back to Dodd. "This will be handled with great care." her mind going over the sorts of explosives she'd need to take care of the work.
Cahill replied, " I like what you are thinking Lieutenant. And the 3 teams can cover a lot more territory too. And any survivors would be possibly in need of medical attention. If the other teams cannot get them to me, then I suggest we beam them back to sickbay to get them the help they need as well.
Also, the 3 teams can be less likely to draw much attention as one large team does. The more we can discover without being found is a better situation."
'I highly agree." Mazal said with a nod. "So I will need to have the appropriate explosives to take care of some things that shouldn't be where they can be found and contaminate things here on a developmental level." after a moment more of thought, Mazal spoke up. "Anything else we need to figure out or should we get things moved forward to get more prepared." she looked at Jackson with an apologetic look, but they did need to get their teams figured out. Jackson had a small smirk on his lips, it was something that Mazal did, and that is why it seemed that they would work well as a team.
"Great, I am for moving forward, however, we will need to thoroughly analyze the data from all the drones and from what records we have from the observation team. I want this mission to succeed and limit any exposure to our presence to upmost minimal contamination." Dodd replied.
Mazal nodded, " I thoroughly agree." the marine XO having a determined expression in her eyes. "When will the information be available to be gone over?" of course, she was eager to gain that information. More information meant, a better ability to protect the crew of this ship.
"Okay, we will need to get our team prepped and get to work on getting updated data from the surface to better prepare that team for the surface," Dodd replied. "Let's resume this just before you depart for the surface."
"Aye, Commander" As Cahill went to get ready for the mission.
"Okay, dismissed and see you all again shortly," Dodd stated as he stood up and allowed the others to exit the ready room. He assure me he would make this mission a success, but he was nervous that he would let down Fleet Captain Somers while he knew she had faith in him or he would not be where he is. The feeling fled and he did an adjustment to his sash and headed to the bridge.
