Mission: S03 Ep 04 Captive State Part 1 (Incidental)
Location: Holodeck?
Timeline: Current

[ON]

Lamia arrived at the holodeck in readiness for the combat drill, after what happened in the past with the slavers she was intending to make the most of this extra training.

Alexandra arrived and was very nervous. As she entered she saw Arderne already in the holodeck.

"How are you?" Lee asked. "I am nervous as I have not had to use a phaser or a rifle since the academy training and that was a while ago for me."

Lamia offered a friendly smile. “I’m fine thank you, just a little nervous about what might be awaiting us during these drills. I could do with brushing up on my techniques though.”

"I am hoping to pick up a lot and hope I don't need to use anything on this mission," Alexandra responded with a dumb look on her face. Although she was not blonde, she knew who she was speaking to and hoped that the act of being ditzy would hide her true skills.

Lamia offered a smile, but something told her that there was more to Alexandra than there appeared. “Likewise, I hope this will be an easy mission for us.”

Dr Cahill arrived and was wearing a jacket, with clothing she replicated from the information of the planet's inhabitants. She had concealed several weapons on herself in preparation.
"Hi everyone."

“Hello Commander” Lamia offered a warm smile. “You’re looking well prepared.”

"Hello Lamia," Cahill replied with a smile. "I am always ready when it turns bad. But I always hope for the best. I have a tricorder and other items hidden in a backpack. As well as extra changes of clothing. I like to be prepared for anything necessary.

Tosrol was late, his illness was getting the better of him, straightening his uniform as he ran down the corridor, he managed to get to the training just in enough time. "Sorry I'm late guys not been so well," he said with a wiry smile.

Ted was not sure why he was here. But as he was going on the away mission he did as ordered. Silver noticed a rather stern-looking Andorian in security yellows carrying what looked like a Frisbee with sharp edges. He walked over to the others.

“That weapon he is holding looks a little too real to me. Do you think that’s going to be used on us?” Ted asked

The training program was not a concern to Leland. He was fit and well capable of multiple obstacle courses. He completed enough drills of them during his Federation intra-mural Hockey camps and training for varsity sports.

Although, his self-assurance had evaporated, whereas Phaser Rifles and hand phasers had interceded. He had an excellent blunt punch, combat footwork, and even some mixed martial arts thrown in. Walking in, he nodded to the gang that was present. “Ladies. Gentleman. Officers and the like.” Hawksley spoke.

Comfort and the ability to move were key for Leland. Otherwise, he was an Ox in a China Shop. He was wearing his sneakers, grey cotton drawstring shorts, crisp white replicated tee-shirt. His phaser was holstered at his side, along with a phaser rifle strapped down across his front chest. “Party hearty.” He mumbled, covering his anxieties.

“My thoughts exactly” Mia nodded. The last time she stood in this holodeck for combat was to take out her revenge on those who’d taken her for slavery purposes.

"Ah. Lieutenant Arderne. You look to be fully equipped for training today. Perhaps you can keep my PADD for me?"

Lamia gave Leland a curious look. “And why would I want to do that Lieutenant?”

"Because someone will need to keep track of all the soulless holograms I shatter!" Hawksley cockily boasted, obviously covering his anxiousness over the 'simulated exercise'. He did not want to come out of this holodeck as a fool.

”I see” Lamia grinned. “So, you’re planning a small massacre whilst we’re huh?”

Cahill replied, "Listen everyone on this mission the use of a phaser rifle is not authorized. their technology is behind ours. We need to look more similar to them and not stand out.

The clothing I am wearing is similar to what they were wearing at the last report we got. And their weapons and medicinal technology are about the 20th century. We need to fit in to be successful on this mission."

Ted raised his hand.

“Will we be training with weapons they have on the planet?” He asked.

Although Teton was Andorian and would not be going on the away mission, he had still looked into the parameters the team would be beaming into. 20th Century weapons consisted of projectile firing, bladed weapons. In some parts of 20th century Earth, they even used bows and arrows. This intrigued him as it would make the kill more deadly. As the user would have to be very accurate in making the fatal wound.

But as this was just combat training no one would be killed. So bows and arrows would not be used.

"I agree," said Cahill, "but we can set up a target range to practice with if anyone has an interest in the bows and arrows. After the simulation is over."

“It could be a good idea” Lamia nodded. “If there’s nothing else to hand it could prove useful learning to make them from scratch as well as target practice.”

"Well, I won't be on the mission. But I will be up here in Engineering... And if anyone gets on the Tomcat, we need the brass knuckles!" Leland thumbed at his chest.

"At least I can be in the way, and make things more disorganized." Hawksley had fiddled with his gun at his side.

"Ensign Teton why don't you show us how to use that weapon and how to defend against it." Matt requested.

The Andorian looked at the weapon in his hand and looked up again.

“It would be better for the success and zero mortality rate, of the upcoming mission. If you were trained firstly against weaponry that would be used against you on the planet. If perhaps there is sufficient time afterwards. Extra training against the weapon I am holding could be performed. Is this not a better idea?” Teton asked.

"Okay, exactly what will they be using against us"? Matt asked.

“Mostly bladed weapons. From analysis, we have obtained from the data we have. I believe the humans call them knives and short swords. These seem to be the preference of aliens on the planet otherwise known as, again going by Earth terminology as street thugs.” Teton explained.

Leland set down his firepower which was obvious overkill. He flexed his knuckles and had cracked them. Was he getting arthritis?

"What weapon shall we train on? A weapon is only one part of a combat drill. What is our drill component?" Hawksley is not that tactically inclined.

Lamia offered a smile. “I’ve no doubt Commander Dodd will have a plan in mind for these drills, he’s going to want us ready for anything we might face down there.”

Turning to Lamia Leland flatly added. "I have been advised that field tactical sims of late involve insects that sting even. Naw. I can't have none of that."

Ted nodded.

“Agreed but then again if that is what will we be encountering down there. Then maybe that’s a good thing?” Silver suggested.

Hawksley held upward his hand large and tall. "Hi my name is Leland and I care!" He started in earnest. "I am not assigned to any mission. I am here because Commander Dodd had ordered." Leland took it almost as a personal offence. "I don't like insects that sting, fly around you fast... and sting..." Hawksley furrowed his brow.

Ted held up his hands.

“Sorry I did not attend to offend you.” He said.

"So we are sure they do not have old earth style firearms? While they have been separated from Earth, they could still have them and just not use them in everyday battles." Lee stated. "I noticed in some of the anthropology data, they do have the degree to possess such weaponry as they do have the growth of basic nuclear power so they are only a few years away from nuclear weaponry from the reports. Earth in the 20th century was a terrible place, with war and pollution abundant. So it only goes to show that we may not be getting all the right data. The last full reports showed basic industrial growth and the current scans show extremely accelerated growth. So we need to be prepared." Lee stated firmly in her best professional tone of voice.

Cahill picks up a Katana-style sword similar to the Asian ones. SHe had martial arts training and Klingon sword training. She begins to work it around and to make some cutting style movements.

"Lamia toss me a couple of those melons one at a time as she stands ready."

Lamia nodded, walking over to the melons she picked one up tossing it at Cahill with practically no warning. It made a good practice for sudden surprises.

Cahill reacted, as she did. Suddenly the sword moved and the melon is sliced in half. She spears one half and tosses it back to Lamia, "Care for some melon, these are very good to eat."

“Don’t mind if I do” Lamia grinned as she tucked into a small piece of the melon slice. “Always pays to keep up energy levels.”

“Those are a lovely bunch of coconuts,” Brandon states matter factly to Lamia and Cahill.

Ted suddenly felt a fit of giggles coming up from his stomach. But this was not the appropriate time for silly jokes. So he just gave a small cough and averted his face.

“ Is there something wrong Lieutenant junior grade Silver?” Teton asked.

"I thought we were just using names, no ranks, " Matt said.

“ No I just felt a sneeze come on,” Ted replied.

Cahill replied, "I was assigned to Kronos early in my career. The Klingons are masters with swords and other weapons as well. They Feel it is an honourable way to face an enemy. And if they win it gives them a stronger sense as well. They feel they inherit the soul of the one they kill in hand-to-hand combat.

Plus I have trained in Asian fighting techniques from the earth as well. Both allow me to use swords and other knives well.

Do you need any medicine LT Silver?"

Ted shook his head.

“No no I am fine.” Silver replied, “ So what are we going to use first?”

"Doctor, Do you have the means to do some private training? I am interested in learning more of ancient earth techniques." Lee addressed Cahill with pure interest.

Teton looked around.

“ If you wish Doctor Cahill. I could assist in this private tuition. I have studied ancient Earth combat techniques.” He reported.

Cahill replied, "I can do some private training if you or anyone else is interested. Also for those that may like to practice on their own, I have some Halosute programs available.

But be sure to start slow when you do. Start at level one and go from there. Even though they are training someone can get hurt while using them. fighting with swords takes time to master. Beginners will learn some basic moves like slashing, thrust and stabbing. Fighting with them is a matter of outthinking your enemy.

I have been using swords for about 12 years. And always remember no matter how good I feel about my skills. There is always one out there that is better than me."

She looked at Teton, "Pick the sword of your choice and we can have a little fun. " As she steps to a position to not endanger others during the demonstration.

Teton looked at her.

“ A sword is a serious and harmful weapon. It should be treated with respect and not an item of fun. I shall choose a simple rapier. It will show quite easily large bladed fighting techniques. Plus there is a smaller percentage for injuries.” Teton said

Computer safety protocols of 3. We don't want anyone hurt since everyone is needed for this mission."

Ted looked to horror.

“ Level 3? That still leaves a chance for a serious cut.....I scar easily you know....”Ted said.

Lamia smiled as she looked towards Ted. “Scars are easily removed you know, besides I doubt you’d even injure yourself.” She was trying to give a minor confidence boost but whether it worked for Ted was another thing.

“ You’ve never seen me play chess.” Silver said

Hawksley had grinned at Ted. He then took out a piece of his spearmint gum, scratching an itch above his forehead eyebrow, chewing the gum piece, breaking down the square minty, gummy mind focusing agent. Chew, chew, chewing.

Hawksley had slipped out his tricorder from his pants pocket, the engineer's tricorder scanning terrain forward… was still ‘to be determined by the program administrator’. Crossing his arms Leland shook his head. Leland had read that and closed the tricorder shut slipping it back. “So the program hasn’t even loaded then yet?”

"If you wish you can start even lower at first. Level 1 for example. I use level 5 sometimes. I have a lot more training and instincts than others don't.

“ Is there a level -1?” Ted asked

How about I demonstrate a fight against a holographic opponent. Then you can see what I mean about learning instincts. Computer sword fight Level 3 Klingon Warrior.

He appears. Begin simulation. I move quickly in defence and also attack at the same time. After about 15 minutes. I gain the upper hand and slash the Klingon across the waist he drops. Computer ended simulation.

She pulls up her sleeves revealing minor cuts. But none life-threatening. As you can see you cannot become a true swordsman without a lot of training. And that takes years to accomplish."

Standing a good distance, Hawksley crossed his arms and watched the interesting fight with the Klingon Officer. His left ocular implant, V 4.2 Advanced analytic prosthetic zeroed in on and measured the fluidic movements, the interplay.

Hawksley clapped. “That was impressive. So. You will be the one to fight the Klingon’s then.”

Teton was very impressed with Hawksley’s fighting skills.

=/\= Commander Dodd, to all. Please end all training exercises and prepare for the mission. We are now ready to get this party started. Dodd out. =/\=

“ Oh dear just as I was getting into this....” Silver said relieved.

“I think we all were” Lamia offered a smile.

"This is happening..." Hawksley cracked his knuckles.

The motley crew of officers then gathered themselves and their gear and preceded to depart the holodeck. They headed for their quarters to gather the rest of the personal effects they would need for the mission, good luck charms or totems. They would then all meet back in the conference room to be updated on any new developments before being beamed down to the surface.
