Mission:
General Sim Postings
Location: Mess
[ON]
- Mess -
Teton sat in the corner and watched the people around him. When he had been on the beta shift. Most of the time he had moved through the Tomcat at night. But now with this change in shifts. It meant not only being on days. But also around when nearly all of the crew were awake.
He knew that there were other Andorians in the crew. He doubted any of them would report him back to his uncle. After all In Gath’s eyes, Teton was dead. But if he or his brother Haro learned he was still alive. Then decided to come after him. Then he would have their severed heads as ornaments. Unfortunately, Starfleet took a dim view of murder. Even if the murdered people had framed your mother and then killed both your parents. But as the humans said ‘ It pays to be cautious.
So here he was in the mess hall. Seated in a corner with a mug of drink. Watching the others trying to ‘ relax ‘ as ordered by his department head.
Thoran entered the mess in time to get a quick snack before starting his next shift. He had yet to meet very many of his fellow officers since coming aboard but those few he had met were nice enough. He was, however eager to get down to some real work rather than sitting on board a starship. As he waited to grab his drink he could feel someone's eyes watching him. With a quick scan around the room, he noticed, nestled into one of the back corners of the mess another Andorian sat watching him. The best way to figure out what's going on is to confront things head on Oo he thought to himself and proceeded to make his way over. "This seat is taken?" he asked once he arrived at the table.
Teton had heard there was a new fellow Andorian on the crew. He had to look into their details. But if they had been accepted into Starfleet they could not be a danger to him. But still, caution was advised.
“ If you wish. To my knowledge, no one is seated there.” Teton replied
Thoran nodded and took the seat, slowly sipping his drink never breaking eye contact. "I guess I should probably introduce myself. Thoran Shon," he offered his hand, "Just came on board not too long ago."
Teton shook Thoran’s hand in a gesture of politeness. Although shaking hands was not his way.
“ I am Teton.” He replied.
He looked for any tale flickers of recognition.
Thoran released the handshake and sipped his drink. He could feel his table mate eyeing him, for what reason he could not know. Thoran had met his fair share of Andorians during his time with the marines, both marine and fleet personnel, but he had never met the one sitting before him. "Well Teton, any particular reason you've been eyeing me from the moment I stepped foot in here?"
“ I assure you that my intention was not to cause you offence. It is just as I believe the humans say, an old habit of mine. Unfortunately my family history. Has taught me to be cautious around new faces. Rather silly I know but it is hard to shed an old habit.” Teton replied.
Thoran took a long sip of his drink, "No need to apologize I get it. Spend a week pinned behind enemy lines and you start to develop some habits yourself."
Should Teton tell his new shipmate the truth? That his uncle and brother thought him dead. If they ever found out this was not to be true. He was sure they would make attempts to remedy the situation.
“ Yes. Even when those enemies share your bloodline.” He agreed.“ So how do you find our non-Andorian colleagues?”
Thoran smirked at the question, "They're alright I guess. The Rifles certainly aren't what I expected."
Teton nodded in agreement.
“ Rifles. What is your weapon of choice? Usually, I prefer a bladed weapon. I find it is the best way to ensure a mortal wound. However, the phaser rifle version 2 with the telescopic sight may be an older model. But it is also sturdy enough to be used in hand to hand combat as a striking weapon and still be used as a phaser weapon afterwards. “ He explained
Thoran chuckled, "Give me a scope, rifle and two thousand meters any day. However when things get personal," he reached into his boot and pulled out a thin triangular blade, "I find a quick thrust into the neck tends to get the job done."
Teton took a sip of his drink. His eyes watched a crew member come into the mess. He made a mental note of their face. So he could check their details later.
Nodding he spoke to his new friend.
“ True although there are some species like the Gorn who have multiple crucial neck veins. Sometimes a blade such as the one you have there. May not suffice to drop your intended attacker. I find the Ushaan-tor a much better-bladed weapon for such a purpose. Agreed it is more difficult to hide from one person. Except in the back of one's garment. But with the correct amount of practice. It can be brought to hand quickly should the need arise.” Teton said.
Thoran let out a laugh, "That, my friend, is what your phaser is for. See what you do is you line up your targets as far away from you as possible, say two thousand meters, and drop the one that looks the most important, says an officer. Now if you have time to move by all means change positions, but if you do not, target the one that looks like he is going to be the biggest threat. The others will start to make their way to you and you just start dropping them until either they are all dead, or they are inside of the range for your sidearm."
Teton considered this. “ Agreed. Although there are different ways this scenario could be executed. Also, there is the possibility that when your first target is killed. The others may call for assistance thus getting a precise location on your location. Also by taking out the Officer you may incur a sense of vengeance in the others. Thus lowing the chances of your own survival. Klingons for instance are well known to keep on fighting to the very end. To avenge their fellow crew on the battle. Including the Captains' pet Targ. I myself see no logic in this. A ship is no place for a pet animal.”
Thoran finished off what was left of his drink, "Agreed." Setting his drink down, Thoran once again offered his hand to his new friend, "Well I've got to get back to work."
“ And so have I. It is good to talk with a fellow Andorian. Perhaps another time we can have another conversation. I found this one quite stimulating indeed.” Teton replied
