Samantha Smithson was working in her office when an alert popped up, she called it up and swore under her breath, quickly pulling up the required file she left her office and headed straight to the Arrival/Departure lounge. It took a short time to get there, but as she stepped out onto the level she saw a brunette female with violet eyes looking around she had Lieutenant Jg pips on and a yellow undershirt, tugging down her tunic she headed towards her target and when was in earshot.

"Lieutenant Benson, Faith Benson?" She asked as she stopped in front of the officer.

Faith gave a turn and looked over at the voice. Focusing on Samantha now. Looking at the pips.

"I am Lieutenant Commander Smithson the Security Chief on Starbase 51, welcome to the Mira Sector, if you would pick up your stuff and follow me, we will go to my office," Smithson said.

"Yes, ma'am. That is me," leaning down to get her two things and then turning to follow her into the office. "Just checking in before I can possibly get some good sleep."

"You should be able to get some as the last report has the Tomcat returning from its current mission and will be here late noon tomorrow," Sam said as they both entered the turbo lift she looked at Benson "El-Aurian huh! I quickly glanced at your file, I have to ask what was it like over two hundred years ago, it must have been a totally different Starfleet back then, did you see any persons of significance?" Smithson asked.

"It was definitely different. More...rough, ma'am." Still falling Sam, "Probably a couple, yes."

"Interesting," Smithson said as the lift stopped on the designated floor and stepped out, she led the way to her office and entered a busy outer office "as you can see Lieutenant a Starbase Security is very busy, but my office is quite enough," she said as she entered the office "if you would take a seat please Lieutenant," she said indicating the chair in front of her desk where she pulled up his file and set out to produce the things he would require for the Tomcat.

"This may be a useless question Lieutenant, but have you ever served out in the Mira Sector before?" she asked as his ID card was being created.

"Yes, thank you, ma'am." Faith set her bags down next to the chair before sitting. "I believe I have actually."

Looking up at her "Oh! when exactly?" Smithson asked honestly curious now, she could count on one hand how many El-Aurian's she had met on the one hand with some fingers to spare. As they were chatting the ID card had finished and she placed it on her desk, next came to the data chip, which would contain the extra codes she would need, and while that was being programmed a strip of dark red paper with some black code on was also printing out.

She gave a glance at the ID and the chip a moment back to Sam, nodding her head. "Janice Rand and Sarek at the Khitomer conference. Had a hand in Admiral Cartwright's court-martial count?"

Looking at Benson, "yes I remember reading about that in the history books" Smithson said "I am surprised you are not at least a Lieutenant Commander by now" she added as the other two items finished and placed them on the desk in front of her. Looking at Benson fully as she picked the ID Card up and held it out to her.

"This is standard for serving on the Tomcat, the ID Card is to be worn at all times when on the ship, be it visible or somewhere on your person, it is to be left behind when you are assigned to an away team or you leave the ship for some other reason, look after it," Smithson said holding out the ID card with Benson's image on it.

Faith stood to take the ID Card, giving it a look over. "That's a little different, but those are the rules. As for my rank, I had a time I wasn't in much of a rush for advancement. Also, all the swapping departments didn't help."

Nodding in understanding. "That I can understand all too well," Sam said and picked up the data chip and held it out to her "this is a data chip, it has the unique codes for your position as Deputy Chief of Security and Tactical on the Tomcat, these security codes are extra on top of the standard codes given to you by Starfleet Security," Sam said waiting for Benson's response, it was true things were different on the Tomcat.

She was pinning it under her comm badge at her waist after taking it back yet again. "I see. Well, that definitely helps, but it can also hinder. If someone gets a hold of the card, voice, and face, they can bypass the security. It just makes it a bit harder."

"The ID card can be used by only you Lieutenant, not even the Captain can use your ID card, in fact, if anyone other than you uses it because it is keyed to your DNA if it comes into another without your DNA it will lock the card and a onetime shock will render the thief of your ID unconscious and the computer will alert security" she looked at Benson "The outgoing Security Chief does not know that and I think you should bring your new boss in on it. Outside of the Fleet Captain and Colonel, you and I are currently the only ones who know of the IDs failsafe" she paused.

"I would advise at some point that you brief the entire crew on this little bit of information, say in batches of ten to twenty personnel at the time, but the only ones likely to get it or try for it will be hostiles, this is why the ID is left on the ship when you go on assignment or an away mission" Smithson responded.

"Before I give you the last bit, you need to know a little of your duties you will be expected to undertake on the Tomcat." she paused as she put a strip of paper next to her.

"As Assistant Chief of Security and Tactical, your duties will include a lot of below decks work in security, reports I have gotten the outgoing security chief did not do much, I expect he and his team will be doing weapons locker checks and such as the Tomcat returns, but prior to that, he did not do much so you and your new Chief will have your work cut out for you. You will both need to arrange a rota so at least one of you is on the bridge and one is doing security, that will be up to your new Department Head to decide. But the majority of the work will be tedious as from the reports I have been reading the Tomcat is doing less and less shooting these days, but this is good as you. Your Chief can get the security department running efficiently." she finished wondering if she would ask who her boss would be and such, but until then she picked up the strip of paper and paused.

"Alright, that's understandable. It's not like it is my first rodeo after all. I just mainly need to know who she or she is and read a bit about them. Get to know their command style, and we should be good to go," Faith nodded.

*clears throat* "Um... The new CoS/CTac is also new to the position, he was the former CoO with the moves done he has ended up as Security Chief, so you can both find a working balance between you, I have met Lieutenant Tosrol Ze, a nice chap he is also a Betazoid, so careful with feeling and emotions around him" Smithson said. Then she picked up the last item and held it out to Benson.

"This strip of paper is your one use command code, all crew get one and it is only to be used if all other crews are rendered unconscious are captured or killed and if you are the only one left standing and the ship is being boarded, use this and it will lock the invading hostiles from the ship's computers, memorize the code then destroy the strip of paper," Smithson said.

"That sounds easy enough. Betazoid. Interesting lot, shouldn't be too much of a problem," Faith mentioned.

She smiled "excellent, okay as I previously mentioned your Department Head is Lieutenant JG Tosrol Ze, a Betazoid himself, so you can either report to him upon the return of the Tomcat or report to him before the ship leaves on its next mission, so until that time and when you leave here your time is your own, so are there any questions you have before I let you go, Lieutenant? Ask now as later it will be your department head" Smithson asked.

"I don't have any questions, ma'am. Ready to go." Faith turned to leave the office.

"Um... Lieutenant kindly get back here please!" Smithson said calling to the Lieutenant "I have not dismissed you, yet" she said and waited for the Lieutenant to return.

Faith froze a moment. Oh right, she forgot about that. Stopped and turned around back to her previous spot. "Ma'am."

*Smiling* "As for the information about the Tomcat is complete, however, secure yourself some starbase-side quarters, the rooms on the Tomcat are pretty much basic and you will not have room for too much, so secure some starbase quarters for yourself speak to the quartermaster, but until the Tomcat returns your time is your own, okay now I am done," Smithson said lightly.

"I didn't bring to much anyway. It should be fine. Thank you, Commander. Enjoy the rest of your day."

With that the Lieutenant left the office, Sam sighed and sat back down, she opened the bottom drawer of her desk and pulled out a shot glass and a bottle of Andorian ale and poured a little, and not for the first time wondered what it would be like serving on a starship.
