Not long after Ensign Drevas had left her computer flashed up with an alert, she called it up "Damn, what is going on!" she exclaimed and accepted the alert and stood up and tugged down her tunic and headed out to the nearest lift as she passed one of her people spoke.

"Where is the fire Boss?" He asked

She paused and looked at him "the Tomcat has another new Security Officer"

"What in blazes is going on out there Commander?" He asked surprised.

"I have no idea," Smithson said and then she was gone out the door and approached the nearest lift and walked into it as the doors opened, when the doors had closed "Arrivals," she said and the lift took her to her requested destination.

- Arrivals -

The doors opened onto a busy area, it had become busier than normal now that the starbase was fully operational, she headed deeper into the milling crowd and saw an MCPO, she assumed that she was the half-Vulcan that had been assigned here, her ears were not as pointed as a full Vulcan, she approached the Master Chief.

"Master Chief Petty Officer Alexi Michelle!" She said stopping next to the enlisted rank.

Alexi snapped to attention when the officer addressed her by name, "Yes, Ma'am." She offered a salute as she dropped the rucksack to the floor next to her. She had been on her way to report in, but she was being met and escorted. "I was led to believe I was to report to the security office here on the base, has there been an alteration in my orders?"

"Nope, I meet all new Officers and personnel for the Tomcat as I will take you through your Orientation, this will be a quicker than normal one as a transport is actually waiting to go to the Tomcat's location, one moment please," she said and tapped her Commbadge =/\= Smithson to Flight Control, will have one more for the Tomcat, could you please delay? =/\= she asked.

=/\= You kidding me Sam! Another officer for the Tomcat, what is going on out there? =/\= The controller asked exasperated.

=/\= I got no idea I only know they lost two officers and this will be a fourth they gained, a good ratio, I will run this new arrival as fast as I can through Orientation and again thank you for holding the transport back, I know the skipper of the SS Coe is not a happy fellow! =/\= She said.

=/\= No he is not, but he is also a Tellerite and like to throw insults and the like and I do the same back, I will keep the ship here, be quick though =/\= the controller said.

=/\= Thank you, I own you a few drinks later, Smithson out =/\= she closed the link "Apologies Chief I am Lieutenant Commander Samantha Smithson I am the Security Chief of this Starbase, now if you will follow me we will go straight to the Security Office where I can get you processed as quickly as possible" she said.

Alexi stood at attention during the Lt. Cmdr's Comms to hold the transport. She had learned a few things by listening. The Tomcat had lost two crewmembers recently, there would be at least four other people in the transport, including the Tellarite pilot, apparently, Smithson gave all orientations, and she was the Chief of Security for the station.

She nodded to Smithson in recognition of the apology then fell into step, grabbing her rucksack and slinging it back over her shoulder. "No apology necessary. It would appear you have had a hectic day or two."

"I would say so Chief, you are the fourth one I processed today, which reminds me you will have three other travelling companions all officers and a Sehlat, don't ask, it took my team hours to calm down after they had left. Also when you return from the mission you should secure Starbase quarters as the Tomcat has a bunk system for enlisted personnel so you will not be able to keep many personal items on the Tomcat, okay as we head to my office do you have any questions I will answer what I can, but know my knowledge on the events on the Tomcat is extremely limited, so ask away" Smithson said.

Alexi thought about what she needed to know in order to do her job. "I do have several inquiries. I overheard you mention the loss of two crew members, and that you did not know what was happening on the Tomcat. If possible, could you explain their current Mission? Were the two crewmembers lost during battle or under other circumstances?"

She paused a moment before she continued, "If other, would you know what those were?" Alexi still had a lot of questions, "Also, from the suggestion to obtain quarters on the station, I would query as to how much time will be spent here. I do not believe it would be advantageous to secure permanent additional housing if the ship spends very little time at the station." She waited for the Lt Cdr. to reply to those questions as they made their way to her office. It was only a start, and once she had her orientation, she was sure she would have other questions.

"One crewman left as she was required elsewhere and got priority orders and possibly one I think died on the mission, still waiting on that second one, all I know is two down four up. The Current mission is initially a two-pronged affair, Lieutenant Commander Cahill the ship's CMO and Second Officer was given temporary Command of the refitted Nebula Class ship the USS Roosevelt, she took two fighter squadrons and 455 Riflemen to push out the Pirates that returned to the hotly disputed Hydaransz System, well disputed where the Pirates are concerned, there was a sub-mission run by the Lieutenant Colonel to destroy a Terran Listening post, beyond that I do not know much more" Smithson said as they arrived at the nearest turbo lift and entered, this gave her time to think of other answers "Security Complex" she said when the doors closed.

"Your quarters on the Tomcat will be a bunkbed affair, four to a room, very little space for very personal items, the reason I said about Starbase quarters was for a place where you can rest and relax in a truly private setting, especially if you meet someone and you want to take them home so to speak, a bunk room is not exactly big enough for having intimate company and you can bring larger items too" Smithson answered as the lift opened onto the Security Level and she led the way out, waiting to see if the Chief had any more questions.

Alexi nodded, "I will consider securing quarters if only to have a less busy location to work. My Orders do not specify to who I will be reporting my investigations on board. Will it be the Chief of Security or someone higher in command? As for the billeting accommodations, I am quite used to sharing not only rooms but bunks in shifts as well." She followed the Lt Cdr out of the lift into the security offices, taking a few seconds to let her eyes traverse the area. "You mentioned two adversaries, Pirates and Terran. It would be remiss of me if I did not ask how much activity has been detected from either front."

"Well from what I know the Pirates have recently become active but only in the Hydaransz system, there are spells where nothing happens, as for the Terran Empire, this is the first contact we have had with them in some years, but as a standard rule, we are more likely to encounter Pirates than Terran's. Personally, I think this recent detection of the Mirror Universe incursion was accidental, but it will be dealt with, when you arrive you will be reporting to the First Officer Lieutenant Commander Dodd, after that, it will be Lieutenant Tosrol Ze the Security Chief, so when you can make a point of introducing yourself to him" Smithson said.

Both entered the inner office "please have a seat Chief" Sam said indicating the seat in front of her desk while she sat behind the desk, and tapped something into the computer and the wall to the right of her started to make a sound as she entered updated, data "do you have the Padd with your transfer orders on Chief?" Smithson asked.

Alexi dropped the rucksack next to the chair as she sat down. She waited while the Lt. Cdr. accessed her computer terminal. She heard a sound and started to glance over but the woman requested her PaDD and Alexi's attention was brought back to Smithson. "Yes Ma'am, I do," Alexi said as she pulled the pad from a deep pocket of her rucksack and held it out.

Smithson took it and nodded her thanks and transferred the data, then handed the Padd back, as the first item popped out of the wall to her right, she twisted and plucked it from the slot and faced the Chief as she registered the item "this is your ID card, it is ONLY to be worn on the ship if you leave your quarters to go to the holodeck or the Lounge when off duty, it is to go with you when on duty it is to remain on your person, it does not have to be visible it only has to be on your person. Should you be assigned to an away team the ID card is to remain in Security as it is more than it seems" Smithson said holding the ID card out to the Chief.

Alexi reclaimed possession of the PaDD and listened to the Security Chief's instructions. Nodding slightly as she also took possession of her new identification, "Understood Ma'am. Only to be used on the Tomcat. Does this also apply to any time spent here as well?"

She gave the Chief a look "only for the Tomcat, not the Starbase" Smithson answered instead then the next item popped out of the wall Sam took it and registered that too with the station's database. The data Crystal was in the shape of an Isolinear chip and held it out to her "okay this is a data crystal it contains some specialized clearance codes on it unique to the Tomcat, I know you have your standard Starfleet clearances, but due to the sector, the Tomcat works in the Captain feels extra security is needed. You will notice that it is in the shape of an Isolinear chip this will allow you to use a receptacle that is compatible with it, do not lose it" she said waiting for the Chief to take it, as this was going on a strip of paper appeared out of the wall.

Alexi nodded and took the second item without query. Being in her position she could fully understand the need for added security measures for a ship in a questionable sector of space. She tucked the chip into a small pocket on her uniform jacket. "A wise precaution. I am surprised more vessels do not have such safeguards in place," said as she looked over to the wall and saw an actual strip of paper appear. Her eyebrow lifted momentarily at the sight, but she managed to bring her face back to a more neutral appearance before the Security Chief commented.

Smithson did not miss the raised eyebrow "I have three machines inserted into the wall, one produces ID Cards, one Data Crystals and the other strips of paper, speaking of paper strips" she said taking the freshly printed outstrip of paper and also registering it with the station's systems and looking intently at the Chief.

"This strip of paper has a very long one-time use code and it is unique only to the Tomcat, Officers get these as default, and only certain enlisted personnel get one, Master Chief are one of the lucky ones," she said and paused. "While it has yet to happen precautions have to be taken, this strip of paper with a code on will allow the owner, you in this case to lock down the ship's systems should the ship get boarded by a hostile force and only then to be used if every other Officer is incapacitated. This is unique in the fact that when used if an enemy tried to access the systems in any way it would wipe the system of all data, thus rendering any data collection attempt useless. When used only a senior officer can unlock it. As it is a one-time code when it is used that is it, you would have to wait for a new code to be assigned, so memorise the code then destroy the strip of paper, any questions?" Smithson asked.

"I would hope the day never arrives that I would be required to make use of such a code. However, I will commit it to memory and destroy the original," she said as she took the paper and placed it in a secure pocket of her uniform. "As I do not know exactly what the Tomcat's Chief of Security expects, I will have to hold any additional inquiries until I am on the Tomcat." She started to reach for her rucksack before stopping and looking at Smithson, "Was there any other information you wished to relay before I head for that Transport?"

"Okay, final instructions before I let you go to the transport "when you get to the Tomcat you and the others are to report to Lieutenant Commander Dodd, from there he will task you with jobs to do, if there are no more questions, then you are free to go!" Smithson said.

"No, Ma'am, no other questions," MCPO Michelle replied as she stood from the seat and grabbed the rucksack, "I will report to Lieutenant Commander Dodd upon arrival on the Tomcat." She took two steps back then about-faced and made her way to the door. Just as she was about to exit, she turned back, "It was an honor to meet you today, Lieutenant Commander Smithson." With that said she walked out of the office and began her trek to the transport.

With a final nod, Sam watched the Security Officer leave her office, finally, it was done, she could sit back and relax for a moment, this had been one hectic day four on the trot, and she sighed and replicated herself a mug of Raktijino.
