Mission: General Sim Postings
Location: SB Station Commanders Office, Secretary,
Timeline: Current

[ON]

Ensign Ross finished his address at the Federation Medical Conference. He felt good having fielded such dialogue regarding the new retro-genic spi-generersol class of drugs.

Dr. Ross envisioned these retro-genic classes of drugs in use as close as next year. He envisioned them in patients' daily care regimes. These medications helped with therapeutic effects, primarily on radiation skin contaminants via EV 1.4-442 Molecular and Nano Probe virus shots.

Gavin swallowed, drinking the cool water as it wet his parched throat. With that, he was finished, relenting the podium in a crowd of polite yet enthusiastic applause. If he gauged the room right, Gavin might have interested a few in his scientific hobby cause.

- Station Commanders Office, Starbase 51 -

Nearing around the Captain’s station quarters, Dr. Hewitt was astonished at the incredible vastness of the complex. It was a true feat for Starfleet Engineering to manage a facility as large as it was.

Ross had dropped off his baggage and medical briefcase in his temporary quarters at the Station. Gavin thought about the USS Themistocles, a sovereign—class vessel. The Sick Bay would be much larger than his previous assignment. Large and outfitted with the best of everything Federation Medical Resources could provide for such a vessel in a Class A Layout.

Standing outside the quarters to the Captain’s Office, Gavin relaxed, taking in whom he was sharing the environment with by scanning the room. There was the secretary provided for the Captain, as Dr. Ross had signed in.

“Ensign Ross, Medical. I'm here to see Captain Somers. I’m here to be assigned to the USS Tomcat under her command.” Gavin had already obtained a scan and access card for the Tomcat crew in advance, and he had been accepted into the system.

“Good. I will let her know you are here. Please be seated.” The secretary then checked a padd on her desk.

For the moment Jasmine was borrowing the Station Commanders Office as she could not keep using the Security Office and disrupt Security Operations. The next moment her Buzzer sounded, and she pressed the intercom.

"Captain Ensign Ross is requesting to see you, Are you available?" the Secretary asked.

"Yes, send him in" Jasmine said and signed off as she called up the Ensign's file she was surprised, so young and her new DCMO, she looked up as the Ensign entered.

- Station Commanders Office -

“Ensign Ross, Doctor, Deputy Medical Officer, USS Tomcat. Arriving at the request of the Starfleet Registrar's Office, Captain Somers.” Dr. Ross swallowed, relaxed his shoulders, and stood tall, relaxed as he always did.

“Captain, might I ask First? What are our upcoming mission details?” Gavin had to ask. Either way, he would have the Sickbay ready and set for outgoing orders.

*Looks at him with an amused expression* "First off at ease Ensign otherwise you will pull a muscle, Secondly be seated" Somers said indicating the chair in front of the desk and waiting till he was sitting before she continued.

"Okay, there are a few things we need to clear up first here are the previous DCMOs clearance codes, she never got around to using them, here is your ID Card, it is to be worn at all times or on your personal when on duty, should you go on an away mission the card is to be left behind, it does a lot more than say who you are. Finally this long strip of paper, it has an alpha-numerical code on it, memorise it and then destroy the paper. It is an override code to be only used in an emergency if all other senior Officers are incapacitated and a hostile force tries to take over the ship this code will lock them out and if they break in the ship's entire database will self-erase" *pauses as she points at the paper strip* before holding a Data Crystal, Strip of Red Paper and ID Card out to Ross.

"They are only usable on the Tomcat, the ship is currently undergoing a much-needed retrofit and upgrade of its hull and systems any questions on this before I answer your initial questions?" She asked.

Dr. Ross took the card in his hands and looked it over. He was as perplexed. He hadn’t used this kind of security screening card since the days when he had worked at Starfleet Medical. “I feel as if I need a pocket pager for me.” Gavin briskly chuckled. He held his both hands upward in gesture. “I am kidding. I’m young. I’m 24. But I relate to the old-school method. Experiments, studying, learning all in the real world, hands-on practices of Classical Fleet Training.” Ross turned to the captain.

“What led you to being a Captain? Respectfully. What makes you think you can lead us?” Ross had his questions.

Folding her hands on the desk and not looking happy at the question, this young upstart had no right to ask such questions, he had not earned that right, but she could hear her Cousin in her head about going easy on eager young officers and that she was no longer a marine, pinning the Ensign with a look.

"What led me to being a Captain, time, experience and promotion, as for that other question about leading, I have done 16 years as commander of the Tomcat, and I am the person who saw your very service jacket and thought that a young Ensign fresh from Medical school could do the job, that is leadership assessing someone for a key position on my ship. As for you asking such questions do not make a habit of it, you have not earned the right to ask such questions" The next words she made plane and clear "DO I MAKE MYSELF, PERFECTLY, CRYSTAL CLEAR Ensign Ross?" She asked pronouncing those words with emphasis to make a point.

Ross stiffened his back upward first. He had been on extraordinarily open and science-based starships before this, the Tomcat. Gavin, at 24, swallowed and nervous, had tried his best to make the best impression he could on his commanding officer and Captain Somers.

This was somewhat deep-down amusing, but he just watched and nodded, no signs whatsoever. He did not like the position he had felt he had been in with the captain. He should have known better. He would remember for the future. “I understand completely, Captain Somers. It won’t happen again!”

She gave him a friendly smile knowing that her point had been made "Okay, our new Chief Medical Officer is having some problems at the moment so until they return and are available to man Medical on the USS Themistocles for the next mission will be down to you, I have to go on the assumption that the new CMO will not be ready in time so I know you are young, new and probably feeling out of your depth, but I need you to suck it up and make sure the sick bay of the Themostocles is ready, but be aware there is a Mission briefing soon, so you will need to be ready for that" Somers finished.

“If I may be obliged, Captain. I have never felt out of my depth,” Dr. Ross assured Captain Somers. He was just being truthful, not arrogant. He was taught well. His whole family was neurosurgeons, and countless of them had revolutionized the core of Starfleet human and nonhuman cardiology. He had been doing this with his parents on science vessels on the space rounds since he was four years old.

“I will plan accordingly.” Gavin paused, looking aside, then placed his hand on his lap. “There are protocols to be followed for every procedure.” He gestured with an acknowledging smile. I will utilize my auto-directional robots to place and organize walls and download medical files of mine appropriately to the new Sovereign Class systems.

*Raises her right eyebrow unsure what to make of this youngling* "Sounds good, you do that, but if you have any questions now, then ask away, otherwise you have permission to leave to get your Department sorted out and to get settled in. I do suggest you acquire Starbase-side quarters as the Tomcat will be in action eventually and even with the upgrades and such there will not be too much room for excessive personal furniture" Somers said.

Ross had immediately held up his hand. “A question, Captain.” Eagerness shot from his butt bone up his spine right to the tip of his long, large fingers holding up his right-hand question. Ross was a keener.

“Captain. I will be charging as chief coroner, medical health officer of health and well-being of officers and crew on the Sovereign Class.” Ensign Gavin eyed Captain Somers. She was sharp and to the point. He liked her. Too bad she would be stepping aside her command on this mission. That was here nor there, none of his concern.

"Do you have any comments regarding my declarations?" It was a necessary call of action for Sickbay.

"Ensign, as far as Depart Head duties go I allow my Department Heads full control of their respective departments, as most of them I do not have the skill set for so why should I in, I also do not micro-manage, if you are on the Tomcat and in charge of something I expect you to do your duty within the scope of your zone. I am a former Marine so medical was never a strong vocation for me and if my experience has taught me anything is that those in charge of a certain department will know more than I. For the record, I will be on this mission, but as an observer only, I will be assessing my First Officer and the new Second Officer, but I will expect you to run an efficient department, otherwise how you run sickbay in the absence of the CMO is up to you" Somers answered.

"Acknowledged." Gavin paused, relaxing in the chair momentarily and then getting up and off to his duty.

Looking ruefully at the departing Ensign Jasmine smiled suddenly feeling her forty something years.
