- Somers Quarters -
After assembling her team Alex returned to her quarters and put on her combat utilities, grabbed her holsters and strapped them up on, she made sure she had her collapsible quarterstaff hidden on her person, and she put on a combat harness which had her twin blade sheaths as part of it, with that done she put on thin but tight gloves and headed out to the Security office.
- Security Office -
Alex exited the lift nearest to the security and walked down the corridor and turned the corner and straight into the Security office the staff there looked up a moment to see who had entered then returned to their duties. Alex entered the armoury and pulled her Desert Eagle pistols, but these were the Phaser version, they fired mini bolts of energy like the Pulse Phasers on a Defiant class, but massively smaller and more basic, as they only had two settings, stun and kill, they had been weighted to mimic the original ones, now placing them into her holsters she pulled out her blades and put them in the sheaths on her back, then in the pouches, she put in some energy mags these were replacement energy coils for her Phaser Pistols and the regenerative phaser she now sported, her outfit was dark green, with dark coloured badges, her Lt Colonel rank was also cloth and dark, the only bright part of her outfit was the white cord of courage around her upper right arm, her combat webbing was dark green too and the Commbadge she had to wear as other members of the team did not have sub-dermal communicators installed.
Somers returned to the Security briefing room as S'arila entered "hi Alex, I see we have the same thought, you know in a lot of ways you are a lot like my Alex from my reality" she said.
"Why thank you S'arila," Alex said with sarcasm.
As the rest of the team arrived Somers was in the process of putting her long hair in a ponytail S'arila already had hers in a tight bun, with her hair back the long visible scar on the left side of her face was visible "welcome people, for some of you this will be your first outing with me and even first combat mission" she paused as she finished doing her hair.
Joel arrived toting his engineering kit over his shoulder and a phaser strapped awkwardly to his hip. Another thing was a claw-like glove. A gift of thanks from that Marine girl he had saved in the service tunnel. He had no idea how to use it though. Still looking around at the rest of the team and the hardware they seemed to be packed with such ease, Jarel had to admit he felt a little underdressed for the ball. He could fire a phaser if he had to. Had passed his hand-to-hand and basic star fleet training. But he had never seen combat, well not since the service tunnel incident again. To say the least his time on the Tomcat thus far had been nothing less than exciting. He set his pack down doing the third check of his gear. He didn't want to worry anyone but this would be his first time ever deploying on an away mission in a long time. Most of his career had seen him on an Engineering station orbiting Earth. He was a little nervous, to say the least. He hoped he had grabbed everything they might need.
A large black panther-like Caitian entered through the doors to the security area. His turquoise green eyes scan the room and his ears twitch in different directions, the left ear missing the top half that still hadn't grown over with hair. He wore the standard security yellow with a hand phaser resting naturally at his left hip. The phaser looked almost comically small for his large hands but he had scored almost perfect marks on the weapons range in the academy. "Ensign K'Ruuras reporting for duty as ordered Sir!" C'Tirr said as he caught sight of the LT. Colonel.
Ted was still buzzing. It had been a while since he had been on this type of away team. In fact, he was starting to feel the old nerves returning. After all the last times they had been chased by Zombies. He had to stop himself from doing a double take of the Colonel's different attire.
“Lieutenant JG Ted Silver reporting for duty.” He said
Looking at Silvers' response to seeing her different uniform "I must admit Lieutenant Silver this outfit is kind of tight and leaves nothing to the imagination, you have no idea how long I have been onto Starfleet R&D to get me a less revealing combat utility outfit, suppose I shall have to replicate some old-style combat clothes" the Colonel sighed.
“ I think it’s a matter of personal choice ma’am. If you are comfortable in that type of combat gear. Then it is less likely you get injured. As you used to the combat suit you are wearing.” Ted replied
Thyra walked in with a Padd in her hand. She was looking at it as she said, "Lieutenant Junior Sh...." She looked over at the colonel and stopped as she was speaking. "Well, that is new. If I were you, I would change Tailors, ma'am. I know one back home in Andor, he is a friend of the family. Unless you like wearing this, then I didn't mention it." She whistled. And then looked back at her Padd. "Anyone for a coffee?"
The Colonel smiled at the sudden discomfort of the Andorian "well Lieutenant, it is what it is!" she said to Sh'shraaqir as she went and collected her weapons and returned.
When all of her team were present "before I begin, I do not think any of you have met my tall statuesque Major here, this is Major S'arila Donovan, she is also a specialist and has the ability to be a perfect lie detector when she removed her specially designed glassed "Major show those assemble your real eyes if you will Computer dim the room lights to a fifty-per cent" Somers said and the lights in the room dimmed significantly.
With that Major Donovan removed her glasses and her solid red eyes with dark red pupils could be seen as she looked at those assembled.
"Major Donovan naturally sees in the infra-red, currently to her you are all varying degrees of yellows, reds and whites, when she focuses she can tell if you are embarrassed or if your cheeks flush when lying. It also allows her to see in complete blackness, she is a genetically engineered soldier from an Alternate reality where the Federation collapsed and the Dominion used a Matter/Anti Matter bomb laced with plutonium, she saw my alternate version die in a glorious battle, so I am told" Somers finished as she inhaled.
"The glasses or combat visor she wears allows her to see as we can, but in black and white, with a hint of Rose colour tint. Anything else before I assign you tasks?" Somers finished.
Jarel was at first fascinated. The woman in question Major Donovan had seen what now?? It took him a moment to absorb the information because it seemed a bit bizarre. But who was he to question it? The real question that was gnawing on his nugget was WHY she was here. He felt his nerves double down. He was getting the impression from all the puzzle pieces that he might just require more than his little pew, pew side phaser wherever they might be headed off to.
When the lights dimmed, his own eyes shone brightly in the low light as well. He could see in very low light levels but not in total darkness. He smiled in admiration at that feat. "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance Major." He said as he offered his hand in greeting. "I'm Ensign C'Tirr K'Ruuras."
Silver looked at the rows of weapons. There were so many to choose from. A phaser? Or a phaser rifle. Simple or with all the trimmings. Should he take a combat knife? If so how long? Something small? Easy to puncture a kidney, or something longer. With a nice serrated edge, do as much damage pulling it out as you did pushing it in.
“ What weapon to sorry I mean do you recommend to take with on this mission?” Ted asked
"Hello Lieutenant Silver," Donovan said in an accented tone "it is a pleasure to meet you" she added giving him a friendly but predatory smile, then she put her glasses back on "lights full, gradual," she said and the room brightened up again "you see, without these, I am light sensitive" S'arila added and fell silent as she looked back to Somers.
"Okay, I have assembled you as a team as you are essentially all new here and to each other, the thing I am only the Acting commander of this ship, Fleet Captain Somers is currently recuperating after the ordeal, in case you have not heard I am Lieutenant Colonel Alexandria Somers, unlike ever another officer on this ship I came up through the ranks, I got a field commission as a very young age, so I am used to doing the hands-on stuff, much to the First Officers chagrined. Normally it would be the First Officer leading such missions, but I do not hold sector defence codes so I am not as valuable as the Fleet Captain and plainly I am looking to bust me some ass" Somers said gently pushing her palm with a fist. "I am fully combat experienced, and have taken part in a classified Special Operation but when I was a Corporal so now you know I am hands-on as is the Major and I am nothing like the senior Fleet Officers you may have met, so enough about me onto the mission" Somers paused as she took in the assembled officers.
"Right then besides the reason for you being here, you all have a part to play, myself, the Major and Ensign K'Ruuras will be the heavies, *looks at the Caitian Ensign* another reason you are here Ensign is that you have an acute sense of smell and are not hindered by being light sensitive so your eyesight can be of use, go get a Regenerative Phaser Rifle, hand Phaser and some Photon and Flashbang grenades and equip extra power packs for your weapon," Somers said.
With a nod, C'Tirr disappeared into the armoury.
As the Caitian went deeper into the armoury room Somers turned to the others, "Lieutenant Silver you will have the same weapon loadout minus the flashbangs, you will also bring along science equipment so you can get better readings of that anomaly and find a way of closing it, I think giving you a closer look should help" Somers said "now go get your equipment and come back here" she added.
C'Tirr grabbed a large backpack and opened it as he headed to the high explosives and crowd deterrent storage. He pulled 20 flash grenades from the storage and dropped them into the left side pocket before taking 20 photon grenades. These went into the right pocket but carefully. The next thing he grabbed was the spare energy packs for the hand Phasers. He was sure to grab enough for 3 replacements per team member. He shouldered his pack before he grabbed not one but two phaser rifles. Once he was kitted out he glanced around before grabbing a tricorder. He exited the armoury and slipped it into the pack.
“ Be back in a mo,” Ted said
He left the room next door after grabbing an empty backpack. He began to fill it with plenty of science goodies. He would need it for the up-and-coming away mission. A theory of how to deal with the anomaly had come to mind. But he needed to get closer first to confirm what his suspicions had already brewed in his head. Once he had what was needed, Ted returned to the other room.
